Whiskies from 'Burn Stewart Distillers plc'

Read the Whisky Magazine tastings notes for whiskies from Burn Stewart Distillers plc.
  • Black Barrel

  • The name does not imply a dark whisky – the colour is a good full gold – but the barrel may have been well-charred. There is plenty of juicy wood-extract there.
  • Black Bottle

  • Black Bottle 10 Years Old

  • A delicious, appetising, new expression of Black Bottle. As a blend, it is a star.
  • Black Bottle 10 Years Old

  • An uncompromising Islay blend. Washes along sea fragrances. But reveals a sweet nature on the palate. Grain and malt are well married. A good cure for Islay-sickness.
  • Black Bush

  • Long one of my great favourites. In composition, it is the the simplest of blends, yet it demonstrates how malt can someimes be enhanced by a leavening of grain.
  • Ledaig

  • Nothing to cheer up tastebuds. Water saves the nose but does not help palate. A pale image of Ledaig.
  • Ledaig 10 Years Old

  • Another that’s growing in character. I’m looking forward to the 12yo.
  • Ledaig 7 Years Old

  • That wasn't breakfast toast after all. It was melba toast, with a game pate. Or better still, a mousseline.
  • Ledaig 7 Years Old

  • Quite an unusual profile. A comforting malt to enjoy while camping in the wilderness.
  • Ledaig Sherry Finish

  • Quite a rich and complex malt. Needs a long aeration to release it all.
  • Scottish Leader 12 Years Old

  • Very mild, but a blend assembled with great skill and subtlety.
  • Scottish Leader 15 Years Old

  • More subtlety sophistication and elegance than the Platinum.
  • Scottish Leader Platinum Seal

  • Remarkably fruity, but in a lively interplay with all the other elements.
