Whiskies from 'Cadenhead's Whisky Shop'
Read the Whisky Magazine tastings notes for whiskies from Cadenhead's Whisky Shop.
Cadenhead's 10 Years Old, Bourbon
I especially like bourbons when they are big and robust. This is both hearty and complex. A wonderful winter warmer.
Cadenhead's 13 Years Old, Bourbon
Despite this being older, it is less astringently woody than the similar five-year-old.
Cadenhead's Allt-a-Bhainne 1992, 9 Years Old
A rare opportunity to serve this summery whisky.
Cadenhead's Banff 24 Years Old
The best Banff I have tasted. Shows its age but the finish reveals real depth and staying power.
Cadenhead's Ben Nevis 1986, 16 Years Old
Hard to guess at the high alcohol strength from the nose. Not the usual big, oily Ben Nevis character. A pleasant fruitiness keeps the sweet notes dominant.
Cadenhead's Benromach 1976, 27 Years Old Authentic Collection
The nose promised more smoothness. Quite an austere character on the palate but with a lot of class.
Cadenhead's Bladnoch 1980, 17 Years Old
Slightly lean. Where is the fruity softness of Bladnoch?
Cadenhead's Bladnoch 1989, 12 Years Old
A neat, summery comforter. Perfect dram for hillwalkers.
Cadenhead's Bladnoch 1989, 13 Years Old
Tired and irritable when first poured, but gradually opens up, more so when water was added.
Cadenhead's Bladnoch 1989, 18 Years Old
Cadenhead's Bourbon 5 Years Old
Just too woody for me, though a good splash of water brings out the other flavours.
Cadenhead's Canadian Indian Corn 15 Years Old
Quite young and green, with a nice fresh tang, especially when diluted. But this cardboardy flavour hangs on.
Cadenhead's Caol Ila 1984, 22 Years Old
Cadenhead's Caol Ila 1991, 15 Years Old
Cadenhead's Caol Ila 9 Years Old
Youthfully powerful. Almost raw flavours, without being in any way spirity. Many Islay-lovers enjoy their whiskies young. This is a robust example.
Cadenhead's Caperdonich 1977, 24 Years Old
Heavily sherried. Rich and full-bodied but the distillery character is hidden by the wood. For the sherry fanatic.
Cadenhead's Classic Range, Campbeltown
Seems simple at first, but gradually reveals subtleties. Stylish, teasing.
Cadenhead's Classic Range, Highland
How nice this would be with one of those tasteful deserts that involves a ‘sugar nest’ and some fresh fruit.
Cadenhead's Classic Range, Islay
You can see why the Germans get so obsessed with this stuff. A peaty happy-slap.
Cadenhead's Clynelish 12 Years Old
Cadenhead's Clynelish 14 Years Old
Firm, dry, confident. Not quite as expressive as the best bottlings.
Cadenhead's Convalmore 1977, 21 Years Old
The best Convalmore I have tasted, with the typically big, fruity syrupiness. After dinner.
Cadenhead's Convalmore-Glenlivet 26 Years Old
A welcome opportunity to taste a rare whisky, though it was never a classic, and in this instance is over the hill (or the Conval Hills?).
Cadenhead's Cooley, World Whiskies 12 Years Old
This is some bottling; great distillate matured to perfection in excellent casks. One for the Islay bore in your life.
Cadenhead's Cragganmore 1994 12 Years Old
Cadenhead's Dallas Dhu 1979, 27 Years Old
Cadenhead's Dallas Dhu 23 Years Old
I think I have discovered a breakfast whisky. They can call it Dallas Dhu. I'll dub it "Death in the Morning. "
Cadenhead's Dalmore 13 Years Old
Extraordinarily sweet-but an engaging curiosity. This pale, golden Dalmore, without the sherry, has an especially characteristic touch of amontillado.
Cadenhead's Dalmore 15 Years Old
Quite a light character for a Highland malt. Water helps but still a bit rough. Even on a frosty morning!
Cadenhead's Dumbarton (Inverleven Stills) 18 Years Old
A great delicacy but the strength needs to be put down by a good dash of water. But it is not enough to cut all the edges off.
Cadenhead's Dumbarton 1969, Sherry Wood
Bossily buoyant. Loses in delicacy what it gains in flavour and texture. Miles away from the Lowlands.
Cadenhead's Dumbarton, 18 Years Old
Cadenhead's Glen Ord 19 Years Old
‘Born on’ dates are not a big issue when John Barleycorn must die, yet this whisky seems to have an especially fresh maltiness. A refreshing dram for the sultry suns of summer.
Cadenhead's Glen Scotia 1991, 15 Years Old
Cadenhead's Glencraig 1981, 21 Years Old
Pleasant, sociable. With mint tea and Moroccan food?
Cadenhead's Glendronach 13 Years Old
Drier and less rich than the distillery bottlings.
Cadenhead's Glenglassaugh 25 Years Old
Glenglassaugh can be malty, and this one is. It stands up very well for it's age. In this bottling, with an apricot colour that suggests sherry, very much a dessert whisky.
Cadenhead's Glenglassaugh 26 Years Old
This has dried out to a point where it is aggressive and unbalanced.
Cadenhead's Glenrothe-Glenlivet (S) , 15 Years Old
Cadenhead's Glenturret 1986, 15 Years Old
A charming whisky, and a reminder that Glenturret is a place, not an experience.
Cadenhead's Glenturret 1986, 20 Years Old
Cadenhead's Heaven Hill 15 Years Old
Fifteen years is quite old for a bourbon, but this is complex, rounded and a good example of Heaven Hill’s style. Keeps the sweet notes dominant.
Cadenhead's Highland Park 1988, 18 Years Old
Cadenhead's Highland Park 16 Years Old
Cadenhead's Imperial Glenlivet 1977, 24 Years Old
A robust whisky that deserves more exposure.
Cadenhead's Invergordon 12 Years Old, Whiskies of the World
The sweetness on the palate can’t tame the alcohol harshness. It has not benefited from the casks as its pale colour confirms.
Cadenhead's Invergordon 13 Years Old
Paler than the Royal Mile version, and drier, too.
Cadenhead's Lammerlaw 10 Years Old
This bottling is much more aggressive, and drying, than I remember. What happened to the soft maltiness and apricot fruitiness?
Cadenhead's Littlemill 1990, 11 Years Old
Littlemill has never been a favourite with critics-or blenders-but I have always thought it a good example of a Lowland malt.
Cadenhead's Loch Lomond 1974, 29 Years Old, Chairmans Stock
The brilliant greeny-gold colour sets a summery mood. Remarkably fresh. Drier than other Inchmurrins I have tasted. Green salad rather than the more usual tropical fruit salad.
Cadenhead's Lochside 19 Years Old
This was never a great distillery but it made some perfectly pleasant whiskies and its loss is to be regretted. This bottling is past its best but obviously has rarity value.
Cadenhead's Longrow 1996, 10 Years Old
Cadenhead's Millburn 31 Years Old
Not a great aromatic display. A carboardy touch on the palate. Water soothes alcohol a little while underlining the unidimensional aniseed/minty profile.
Cadenhead's Moidart, 10 Years Old
Cadenhead's North British 21 Years Old
Somewhat one-dimensional.
Cadenhead's Putachieside, 12 Years Old
Cadenhead's Rosebank 1989, 9 Years Old
All of the characteristic floweriness of Rosebank, but with some roundness.
Cadenhead's Royal Brackla 15 Years Old
Hardly elegant but a muscular malt of a style that is sadly vanishing from the Highlands. I greatly enjoyed it.
Cadenhead's Teaninich 1993, 12 Years Old
Cadenhead's The Glenrothes 1990, 16 Years Old
Cadenhead's Tomatin 1989, 17 Years Old
Cadenheads America Bourbon
Has an extra dimension. Recommended.
