• Caol Ila 12 Years Old

Of the three expressions in this tasting, this is the most rounded and balanced. All the classic Caol Ila aromas and flavours are there, with no sharp edges. Vatted for drinkability?

• Caol Ila 12 Years Old

A balanced expression of peat in this version. A lot of intricate aromas in this dram.

• Caol Ila 13 Years Old, Bottle for the Whisky Fair

Beautifully complex.

• Caol Ila 15 Years Old

A wonderfully aperitif. Smoked fish to follow?

• Caol Ila 16 Years Old

Just one of a great clutch of smoky drams this time around.

• Caol Ila 18 Years Old

The most vegetal and assertive of the three expressions. Lots of contribution from the wood.

• Caol Ila 18 Years Old

Oak seems to have “digested” peat. The smokiness is restrained on nose as well on palate but surprisingly comes back on the finish.

• Caol Ila 1982 25 Years Old

Perfect balance. An extremely good Caol Ila. Recommended.

• Caol Ila 23 Years Old

All the oily, waxy, junipery, bush-like flavours of Caol Ila, but the whiff of the sea comes late.

• Caol Ila 8 Years Old

• Caol Ila 8 Years Old Unpeated

A straightforward example of a bourbon cask maturation. A bit burning on the tongue for me but some like hot, don’t they?

• Caol Ila Cask Strength

The most fruity, fresh, peppery and lively of the three expressions. I loved all three. Scoring was a tough call.

• Caol Ila Cask Strength

Bold, well-balanced example, most drinkable.

• Caol Ila Cask Strength

Wood shows up more. Smoke is heavier and less sea-sprayed than the Bowmore.

• Caol Ila Distillers Edition

• Old & Rare Caol Ila 28 Years Old 1979

Good but pretty tired.
