A rich nose and a somewhat restrained palate with an assertive oak print, which the high strength
amplifies. But an elegant dryness.

Splits into its (often contradictory) component parts.Lacks balance and coherence

The strength is a bit aggressive. And oak is not well-integrated. Tastes like a too young fellow.

A rich multi layered whisky which, surprisingly, I enjoyed better without water. The latter enhances a bitter tone.

Nose and palate are a bit agressive with a lingering sourness which is disturbing. A prickly character. Water smooths the flavours over but this is not enough.

A beautiful Islay malt in a sherry refill dressing. Rich aromatic development, great combination of strength and sweetness.

The nose is more interesting than the palate. A full bodied character which has flirted a bit too long with wood. Might suit cigar palates.

Old Bowmore is fascinating: it either becomes light and tropical with no smoke or reduces into this anchovy like concentration.

With some Dufftowns you are glad when you've had enough. This is a well-made example which has been matched by very good bourbon wood.
