Rarity. Luxury. Two words invented, perhaps, to describe the unique single malt - single cask bottlings that are the Dun Bheagan Vintage Collection. A collection that spans land and time, with individual selections from all of the malt producing regions of Scotland and an age range of 10 to 35 years maturity.
As a malt whisky connoisseur you'll immediately recognise the rich fruit, spice and ginger nose of the Teaninich 18 Year Old matured in sherry wood; and you'll welcome, like an old friend the dry, biscuity finish of the Glenossie 11 Year Old Port Finish.
Or introduce yourself to Dun Bheagan with one of our 8 Year Old Regional Malts matured in traditional oak casks at their distillery of origin and all bottled in the old fashioned way without chill-filtration for a fuller-smoother taste.

Chieftain's Choice
Scapa 1985, 16 Years Old
Rich and generous. Again, overwhelming distillery character.
Chieftain's Choice Auchroisk 11 Years Old
The port threatens to dominate the malt. I can’t recall tasting such a powerful wood finish. Could seduce people who believe they don’t like whisky. For that purpose, I would use this rather than a lighter, blander, malt.
Chieftain's Choice Auchroisk Medoc
A port finish? Rather brutal and overwhelming. Was the distillery character so bland?
Chieftain's Choice Banff 1978, Sherry Wood
Too burnt and dry. Not for everyone. Reminds me of a particular espresso and grappa, standing outside the Arsenale, on a winter’s morning.
Chieftain's Choice Banff 1979, Aged 23 Years
I thought this whisky had died in the bottle, but water brought it back to life.
Chieftain's Choice Benrinnes 10 Years Old
For me this has been bottled too early and before the sulphuriness of youth has been fully matured out.
Chieftain's Choice Bladnoch 18 Years Old Sherry Wood
A distinguished expression of sweet oloroso, even if it seems a bit ostentatious on the palate. For after-dinner enjoyment.
Chieftain's Choice Brora 1981, 23 Years Old, Sherry Finish
Rich flavours. A chestnut-coloured whisky for people who like very grown-up sweetmeats: Marron glacé, for example. Unlikely to be enjoyed by anyone younger than the whisky.
Chieftain's Choice Brora 1982, 19 Years Old, Sherry Butt
Pure mastered (and mastering) oloroso style. But where is the spirit contribution?
Chieftain's Choice Brora 24 Years Old
Elegant and highly individual. Takes no prisoners.
Chieftain's Choice Brora, Sherry butt, 23 Years Old
Chieftain's Choice Caol Ila 13 Years Old
Here we go again...Caol Ila hits the nail on the head yet again.
Chieftain's Choice Caol Ila 1990
The more Caol Ila makes itself available the more I seem to enjoy it.
Chieftain's Choice Clynelish 13 Years Old
So different to the Douglas Laing Clynelish. The perfect whisky with farm cheeses.
Chieftain's Choice Dallas Dhu 26 Years Old Rum Finish
I wonder what type of rum casks were used. I cannot find any hint to a finish here. Don’t look for delicacy but fine if you look for a wake up call.
Chieftain's Choice Glen Scotia 1974 30 Years Old
What a lovely nectar. Great fruit and cream combination.
Chieftain's Choice Glencadam 1985, 16 Years Old
Graceful and characterful. To be sipped on a midsummer starlit night. A true dancing dram.
Chieftain's Choice Glenturret 1990, 12 Years Old, Port Finish
Refreshing, appetising.
Chieftain's Choice Glenturret, 10 Years Old
Pleasant, but I have had more complex bottlings from this distillery.
Chieftain's Choice Imperial Speyside 24 Years Old
One for the palate and not the nose.
Chieftain's Choice Laphroaig 12 Years Old
A good, clean Laphroaig. Not exceptional, but true to character.
Chieftain's Choice Littlemill 1984, 18 Years Old Years Rum finish
I have always rated Littlemill more highly than most tasters do, but stocks are getting past their best.
Chieftain's Choice Mortlach, Sherry Wood, 15 Years Old
Chieftain's Choice Port Ellen 24 Years Old
Complex stuff going on here. A really rewarding Port Ellen.
Chieftain's Choice Port Ellen, 23 Years Old
Chieftain's Choice Rosebank 1991 Sherry Finish, 11 Years Old
An attractive medium-bodied Rosebank. The sherry finish has added complexity to delicacy. Some exotic notes which makes it really appetising.
Chieftain's Choice Springbank 35 Years Old Single Cask Sherry Butt
Springbank is a big whisky but the sherry here is even bigger, and wipes out some of the whisky's subtleties.
Chieftain's Choice Teaninich 21 Years Old Sherry Butt
Not much subtlety, but I always enjoy its big, confident, flavours.
Chieftain's Choice The Glenrothes 1992, 10 Years Old, Port Finish
More mature than its 10 years would suggest. Fruitier than the conventional distillery bottlings. Refreshing. Like sorbet between courses.
Dun Bheagan 8 Years Old Islay Single Malt
A promising middleweight. Could be a contender in two or three years.
Dun Bheagan Bladnoch 17 Years Old
Drier and thinner than Bladnoch at it's best.
Dun Bheagan Caol Ila 1990, Hogs Head
Dun Bheagan Clynelish 19 Years Old
A surprisingly sweet expression of Clynelish. Lots of flavour and plenty of charm.
Dun Bheagan Convalmore 1975 28 Years Old
Ascetic. Complex. Cosmopolitan.
Dun Bheagan Convalmore 30 Years Old
Dun Bheagan Glen Scotia 1975 29 Years Old
Dun Bheagan Glen Scotia 31 Years Old
Dun Bheagan Island 8 Years Old
Dun Bheagan Isle of Jura 1987 18 Years Old
Dun Bheagan Linkwood 11 Years Old
Insubstantial.
Dun Bheagan Littlemill 1984 21 Years Old, Sherry finish
Dun Bheagan Littlemill 21 Years Old, Sherry finish
Full flavours but slightly tired. A Lowlander for Christmas? Well, perhaps for Boxing Day.
Dun Bheagan Lowland 8 Years Old
A pretty face with muddy feet.
Dun Bheagan Lowland 8 Years Old
Dun Bheagan Lowland 8 Years Old
Dun Bheagan Mortlach 10 Years Old, Port Finish
Mortlach is usually a supple, muscular malt. At ten years, this already seems a trifle tired.
Dun Bheagan Rosebank 15 Years Old
Dun Bheagan Rosebank 1991, 14 Years Old
Dun Bheagan Scapa 13 Years Old
A very light, clean expression. Scapa deserves to be in regular production.
Dun Bheagan Springbank 38 Years Old
Dun Bheagan Tamdhu 13 Years Old
Ian Macleod Blended Scotch Whisky, 50 Years Old
Ian Macleod Clynelish, Sherry 12 Years Old
Ian Macleod Pure Island Malt
Light but enjoyable flavours. A lively, attractive, feminine whisky, but the island character is scarcely evident: an omission for which a half point is deducted.
Ian Macleod Pure Island Malt
Definitely an Islander, tastes young. Could have more finesse.
Ian Macleod Strathmill 1994, Sherry Refill, 11 Years Old
Isle of Skye 12 Years Old
The aromas and flavours evoke breakfast, but in a farmhouse kitchen with an open fire, rused and dashed by the winds down the chimney.
Isle of Skye 8 Years Old
Nose and palate seem to be flattened by excess of sickly sweetness.
Isle of Skye 8 Years Old
Tasty, satisfying. Linger over it. Again, it opens up after a long time in the glass.
Langs Select 12 Years Old
A light, refreshing and aromatic blend. To be enjoyed with light food such as seafood salad or trifle. No water please.
Langs Select Blended Scotch Whisky, 12 Years Old
Langs Supreme 5 Years Old, Supreme
MacLeods 8 Years Old Highland Single Malt
Bold flavours. "Take me as I am, " it seems to say. I will. Let's live dangerously.
MacLeods 8 Years Old Lowland
A pleasing balance of spirit and wood, but lacked complexity. Young spirit in active oak?
Magilligan 1991 Limited Edition, Sherry Wood Finish
Finishing Cooley's peated malt in a sherry wood for a year works a lot better than I imagined, and makes me wonder what an unpeated malt would taste like after a year in Jerez.
Magilligan 1991 Sherry Wood Finish
I liked the lively 8 Years Old version. Would I be tempted away by something smoother, more mature? I would think about it...maybe.
Magilligan 8 Years Old, Irish Peated Malt
A lovely, clean, malty, easily drinkable, whisky. The label promises peat, but that is hard to find.
Magilligan Pure Pot Still
Although it says 'pure pot still' on the label, this is a single malt, there's no unmalted barley here. At 5 or so years old this malt is still a bit green.
Smokehead
Not subtle, but is it meant to be? Just needs a little sweet oak to round the edges off, but why is it called smackhead?
