English Whisky (St George's Distillery, Norfolk)

I have just seen this entry on the BBC's website, dated 28.11.09 -

The first single malt whisky distilled in England for more than 100 years has gone on sale in Norfolk.

Collectors and enthusiasts bought more than 2,000 bottles of St George's single malt when it went on sale.

The whisky was made at a distillery set up in Roudham in the south of the county in 2006.

Managing director Andrew Nelstrop said he has always been aware that the business is for the long term as the whisky must be stored for three years.

To qualify as a bona fide single malt whisky, the liquor must also be stored for this period in oak casks that previously contained port wine.

I have visited the distillery both last year and this, and find it a most hospitable place!

To be honest I,ve never tasted it, but did the tour earlier in the year and a case was the only amount you could pre order.

It should be a good investment if the first bottles of Penderyn are anything to go by

This way I get some to drink, some to sell on and some to add to the collection!

I think I've only had Chapter 2, but it was very good (with the usual provisos about age).
