Glenrothes tasting Phoenix AZ

I will be attending a Glenrothes tasting at Magnums in Phoenix. There will be four Glenrothes to taste, the Select Reserve, the 1991, 1985 and the 1975. First off I just wanted to let people know about it(since until about two days ago I didn't even know that they did scotch tastings) and secondly I wanted to know what people think of these four.

Thank you for your response. What did you think of the 1992 (I have saw one on the shelfs today)? Just so I can compare it to the 1991 when I try it on Thursday? I am considering buying the 1991 or the 1985 after the tasting (depending on which one I like more and how much they cost)? As I have had the Select Reserve before and I found it to be rather simple, with a nutty oiliness, with hints of caramel and butterscotch and the 1975 will be out of my price range. Thank you

I recently had the 1985. It is so much better than the Select Reserve, 1991 and 1987. I'd much prefer to put a little more money into the 1985 than get the younger ones at a lower price. The most enjoyable for the price that I've drammed is the 1979-16/17 yo. This is the one that got me into this distillery.

Hey Sean.... have fun... and enjoy the 1975... it is a wonderful dram.. I have had the SR,91,87 in the sample (100ml) pack (a couple of times), and they are all good with the '87 being the best of that group. Longer finish more balance. I don't seem to remember the '85 off hand... so I will have to check my notes for that one (maybe at a show). The '75, '79, '73's are really top of class beverages... A treat to have on any occation...

Here are the notes from the tasting.

Select reserve: very oily, a nutty oilyness that I did not like with some caramel. Overall not very goog.

1991: toffee, butterscotch and vanilla. Short finish. Better bit still very average.

1985: solid with butterscotch, vanilla, and some dried fruit (apricots). More oomph and fire.

1975: very good with canned peaches, dried apricots, hints of pineapple, spice and more full bodied then the others.

The tasting was ok but I left not very impresses by glenrothes. I felt that bang for the buck it was lacking a little.

I also tried two other malts at their bar.
Caol ila de(not available in the us so I had to try it). Very good the sweetness went with the oilyness. A very good whisky I just wish it was available here.

Ardbeg nam veist: amazing, well balanced with peat, lime, other citrus and nice saltiness. After christmas I will buy a bottle.

LSD, I wasn't the person who posted on "what does john know" but what did they say.
