Whisky Show London 6th-7th Nov

Postby r900p » Tue Aug 04, 2009 12:21 pm

Followed a link forgotten from where and found this

http://www.thewhiskyshow.com/2009/

Sounds really good until i looked at the ticket price of £100, still food is included and drink as much as you want.

Its around my Birthday so could treat myself but with accommodation and getting there on top it would cost me a fortune.

I have been on their website. I think TWE are ace. Looks good ... but £100 good.

Ok at Whiskylive, you have the vouchers, but nobody takes them, so apart from a bit of food on top of the whiskylive event, I am having trouble makig it add up to £100.

Or is it me?

If it helps anyone, the Evening Standard are from today running a 2 for 1 offer for attending the Whisky Show. If you split the cost with a friend, at £50 with a decent meal (not just chewy meat in a bread roll), a goodie bag (with real goodies in it), and no whisky vouchers, it's IMHO very good value:

Details of Offer:
http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/esrewards ... roffersall

To Book (without registering for junk from evening standard):
http://www.thewhiskyshow.com/es

The number of tickets available on this offer is I believe very limited!

Add to that there's no hidden booking fees etc, and the exhibitors will stick around until 1/2 hour before the show is scheduled to end, and you are on to a winner.

Did I mention that Balvenie, Edrington, Glengoyne, Laphroaig, Number One and Whyte & Mackay will also be there. All exhibitors who have been sadly missing from other London whisky events in recent years!

I'm looking forward to it, just booked my tickets for the Friday so maybe see some of you there!

Was at the show yesterday and it was excellent.

Huge range of drams, some quite unusual and not what you would expect to find at a show. (Personal favourite was the Dalmore 1974)

If you can, GO !! Recommended

I was having a dram or two last night with someone that was there on the Friday and it seems that the goody bag consisted of a bottle of water. Surely that was a mistake?

For £100, I'll say!

Or maybe not - rather, a complementary palate cleanser to make sure you get the most out of your expensive tasting session...

The goody bag was a huge disappointment - not even a large bottle of water. As I was leaving I asked where I collect my goody bag from, and was told - you are carrying it!

However the event itself was very good. Very nice, relaxed, plenty of time to sip, talk and chat without being jostled by people wanting drams for tokens. I think the big thing for me was the lack of crowds (it was a nice number on the Friday, never cramped), and at the price everyone there was keen to try / learn more rather than drink themselves silly for the least number of vouchers.

Critisms / things they could improve for next year:

1) The goody bag - a complete joke IMHO.
2) The band - you want/need jazz or Pink Floyd covers to appreciate whisky, not modern indy goth - unless that's just me!
3) The programme - no obvious map / guide to show who was exhibiting where, finding the location of the super premiums was a challenge at times!
4) Seemed quite slow / tedious entering the venue queuing to get your name crossed off.

The casino token for a super premium was a nice touch as it introduced some of the sport that was missing with the lack of vouchers policy!
