POURS tasting Edinburgh 6th March 2014

. pours = peaty/old/unusual/rare/sherried

As usual (always?) at The Kilderkin, 65 Canongate, Royal Mile, Edinburgh at 7.30pm £22 for first timers and members, £25 for returning non-members. Membership is £10 for 13 months.

This tasting will feature a Cadenheads 14yo Craigellachie 55.1% bottled to celebrate Cadenheads Berlin shop's 10th birthday: only 18 bottles in the UK (that doesn't make it good but it is).

A cask strength 25yo Invergordon single grain from Whisky Broker, converts to grain should be happy and those who haven't boarded the good ship vanilla might be planning their next cruise.

Also another Cadenheads: a 22yo rum cask matured Glen Elgin at full strength - the rum accompanies the malt and the years rather than overwhelming the dram. Not an all round pleaser but well worthy of inclusion.

Next a 15yo Glentauchers bottled by Gordon & MacPhail for The Whisky Exchange. This is full on sherry cask stuff. I love it but expect folk with limited patience for this style to be baffled if not intimidated by other peep's delight.

Finally we're putting Diageo's 2013 edition of Lagavulin cask strength 12yo through its paces. An expensive 12yo but if its good then maybe its worth it. Recent bottlings have left me a bit wanting and this one is supposedly a return to form....

Agree on the Craigellachie, lovely wee dram.

I agree on the Craigellachie, the Glen Elgin and the Glentauchers. I'm hoping to make this one.

I'm pleased to report only a couple of spaces left for tomorrow night's tasting if anyone (Willy) wants to attend.

Packed evening and great fun last night. Glentauchers was the dram of the evening followed by the Craigellachie then the Glen Elgin for me.
