Manchester BarelyLive 2007

Postby woodhill » Tue Dec 11, 2007 6:12 pm

On the prompting of Mattbuty's kind invite to all northern members of this forum to his upcoming birthday bonanza  ......*

Is there any interest in regional whisky meets?????

informal get togethers in whisky pubs etc......?

* see recent posts in "show off your inventory" for more details.

...erm.....Thanks for that Woodhill. Bring a bottle though eh?

It would be good to know who would be up for informal tastings in Manchester/Cheshire/Lancs etc etc

I would like to see if we cant get a night in January to taste the whisky and rate the pubs. I know of a few good whisky bars, please feel free to suggest your own...

Great post guys 8) , I would also be up for meeting up with fellow members for tasting evenings etc. Although the north east is a bit far for me. I posted a similar topic earlier today about listing local tasting evenings people are going to.

Their loss, I have been sounding a few colleages out about a potential future tasting tonight. Seems there is a possibility this COULD happen...

Mattbutty:
Look, the easiest way to set it up IS to set a date and show up at the specified location. From the initial stages that we followed in setting up the first online tasting here, I speak from experience. PM any interested parties you've had contact with to mull out the specifics. Then, set a date, time and location, post it on the Forums and send confirmation PMs.

Take the bull by the horns and take the risk of nobody showing up. At the worst, you get to dram alone in a pub you've picked out. At best, you get to put real faces to virtual names.

We used to have sponsored tastings here that fell by the wayside due to lack of organisational dedication. After a couple of years, I finally started up a Tasting group in my home with a few friends, who each brought one guest. There are now 15 members and another half dozen who would kill for a seat and unhappily have to wait for an opening. I also prepare a detailed handout for each attendee.
Wish I lived closer...

Thanks Musky, I will bear all this useful information in mind. I am glad to hear your group is a success. The idea of it definately appeals to me. I think I'll get Christmas out of the wat and then set something up in earnest...

I will gladly provide you with copies of the package that I've adapted/developed for our group, if it will help. PM me after the Festive Season and we can chat.

After seeing this topic since it was posted, I have only just realised what the title is

Is this a reflection of how you must enter, or how you leave the event?

Sorry for confusing you.

Tha thread title is suggestive of a smaller not so Live whisky party than the Whisky Live run by WM which is countrywide rather than area specific.

I hope that makes sense. It made more sense in my head as I wrote the original thread

Y'know what? I caught it right away and chuckled away to myself as I hummed the BeeGees "Staying Alive" version we used to sing at Uni:

No confusion Woodhill, I think your title is wonderful. But until yesterday I never noticed "barely" and also read it as Barley.

Yes lets make it happen...

Lets see who's in, and decide on a venue from there...

1) Mattbutty. I'm in and I live in crewe, but can travel..

I would certainly be up for this also, and have at least one other person I could bring along.

Any suggestions as to a date and venue?

If everyone can get to Manchester City Centre I hear that the Britons Protection has a large selection of Whisky (over 250?).
Any other suggestions?
