Mattbutty:
Look, the easiest way to set it up IS to set a date and show up at the specified location. From the initial stages that we followed in setting up the first online tasting here, I speak from experience. PM any interested parties you've had contact with to mull out the specifics. Then, set a date, time and location, post it on the Forums and send confirmation PMs.
Take the bull by the horns and take the risk of nobody showing up. At the worst, you get to dram alone in a pub you've picked out. At best, you get to put real faces to virtual names.
We used to have sponsored tastings here that fell by the wayside due to lack of organisational dedication. After a couple of years, I finally started up a Tasting group in my home with a few friends, who each brought one guest. There are now 15 members and another half dozen who would kill for a seat and unhappily have to wait for an opening. I also prepare a detailed handout for each attendee.
Wish I lived closer...
