Very good dcrossan. should not be disappointed based on last years show. Once we get more of a list of people together we will have to see about additional gatherings and 'tasting' sessions...

October is a very busy month. I'll see about making it up for the event. I need to find out about the timing of other things. Looks like an interesting list. May have to at least make it a short trip up.

K&L Wines is the merchant store for this event. So they will have a list of beverages for purchase at the event at a discount (normally). They are not bottles you walk away with, but for order. Either by pickup or delivery.

I recon everybody will be lining up infront of the Macallan-tables:

Some very, very big Macallan news!

Current and past Master Distillers and Managing Directors will each create one unique bottle of Macallan. The contents inside each bottling will be offered one dram at a time to lucky attendees who provide a donation to charity.

They are almost walking distance from each other, and if you decide to purchase something at the Fest, you can probably pick it up from the store before you leave. If you would rather put it in your suitcase...

Good stuff for those going in October!!

Final Rare Whiskies Line-up for WhiskyFest San Francisco
July 25th, 2008
Here's the final list of rare whiskies being poured for charity at WhiskyFest San Francisco on October 10th, 2008. Attendees at WhiskyFest will have the opportunity to sample these whiskies for a small charitable donation.

Glenfarclas "Family Cask" Vintages:

1955
1968
1974
1989
1994

The Glenlivet Cellar Collection:

1959
1964
1969
1972
1983

The Macallan:

Unique, individual, bottles (bottles 1 of 1) of Macallan created by current and retired Macallan Master Distillers and Managing Directors, listed below.

Bob Dalgarno (current Master Distiller)
Frank Newlands (retired Master Distiller)
Sandy Curle (retired Master Distiller)
Willie Phillips (retired Managing Director)

This will be a very special evening. And given this is only our second WhiskyFest in San Francisco, we don't expect the crowd to be as big as our two other events in New York and Chicago. So, if you can only go to one whisky festival in the U.S. this year, this is the one to go to.

It is our goal to offer similar rare, special whiskies-all for charity-at future WhiskyFests, so stay tuned.

I just noticed that on the Brandy Library's menu in NYC they have a 1962 Glenlivet Cellar Collection on their menu that runs $450 (2 oz pour). The 1972 is $150. So looks like they will have some good stuff that most people would never pay full price to sample  And after all, its for charity!

Glad to see you are still onboard Bcrossan.

K&L will be pouring their new bottlings at the show:

The New K & L Exclusive Casks:
1989 Bruichladdich From Signatory
1990 Glen Grant From Gordon & MacPhail

The start of many good things to be at the show I hope....

Just need to figure out what the donations are for all the 'farclas family casks.

One Ticket for the show ordered - VIP....

Special bottles there:

A Truly Special Offering
We have three big additions to WhiskyFest San Francisco. What better way than to have the availability to taste whiskies that are impossible to find or just too expensive? The folks at The Macallan, The Glenlivet, and Glenfarclas have agreed to donate fantastic bottlings which will be available to taste one dram at a time to lucky attendees who provide a small donation to charity.

First, current and past Master Distillers and Managing Directors of The Macallan Distillery will each create one unique bottle of Macallan. Current Master Distiller Bob Dalgarno, past Master Distillers Frank Newlands and Sandy Curle, along with former Managing Director Willie Phillips all will be participating. They will each use their talents to create one bottle of Macallan whisky to their liking and specification. Each will be bottle #1 of only 1, never to be reproduced or replicated ever again. As Ken Grier, Marketing Director for Macallan described, "This is like Led Zeppelin reforming for one concert. We have never done anything like this before."

Secondly, for everyone who simply can't afford to purchase a bottle of The Family Casks spanning 43 vintage from 1952 to 1994, Glenfarclas is donating one bottle from each decade to our charity table. WhiskyFest San Francisco attendees will be able to taste a wee dram a Glenfarclas whisky from one of five different decades and will include bottlings from 1955, 1968, 1974, 1989 and 1994. This is an extra special treat for those of us in the U.S. given that The Family Casks whiskies were never sold in the U.S.

And lastly, all of The Glenlivet Cellar Collection whiskies imported to the U.S. will be available in the charity section. The Glenlivet Cellar Collection whiskies are rare, old, extremely limited and quite expensive vintage releases carefully chosen from the Glenlivet warehouses. They are selected one vintage at a time. One is released every couple of years. All have been quite good. Some, like the 1959 vintage, have been absolutely amazing!
Five vintages have been released over the past decade: 1959, 1964, 1972, 1983, and the just-released 1969 Vintage. All will be at WhiskyFest San Francisco.

Whiskies at the charity tables are half ounce pours and can be purchased for one charity ticket (cost $20 donation) except the following: all Macallans, 1955 Glenfarclas, 1959 and 1964 Glenlivet which require two charity tickets ($40 donation).

So I guess the real question if you are going to have a bottle by one of the past masters of Macallan who would it be:

Bob Dalgarno (current Master Distiller)
Frank Newlands (retired Master Distiller)
Sandy Curle (retired Master Distiller)
Willie Phillips (retired Managing Director)

At $40 donation. I would like to try one, I guess I will have to research these guess to find out what I might like.

I'll be there and would love to meet any readers of my blog. See my .sig for the link. Last year's event was great, and this one's looks to be bigger and better.

BTW, two other whisky retailers are in the city: D&M and John Walker. The latter is in walking distance of the hotel. Links are in my blogroll under the "retail" category.

This event looks like it could be really really good. The list of attendees looks pretty extensive and the chance to try the rare bottlings such as the Glenfarclas and the Macallans especially sounds really special.

Looking forward to reading reports about it after the event.

Please complete your WhiskyFest ticket stub before you arrive at the event as this will save you time once you get to registration. The signed ticket is required for your Glencairn glass. Wait 'til you see the whisky list!
To see the up-do-date list of the whiskies that will be poured, please check out http://www.maltadvocate.com/whiskeyfest-sf-whlist.asp. Many whisky companies have decided to pour some very special whiskies during the evening, especially during the VIP hour only.

A Truly Special Offering
In addition to an amazing list of whiskies being poured the night of WhiskyFest, Malt Advocate magazine has teamed up with The Macallan, The Glenlivet, and Glenfarclas to offer attendees a once-in-a-lifetime taste of very rare whiskies for a small charitable donation.

Whiskies at these three designated charity tables are half ounce pours and can be purchased for one charity ticket (cost $20 donation) except the following: all Macallans, 1955 Glenfarclas, 1959 and 1964 Glenlivet which require two charity tickets ($40 donation).

100% of the proceeds from these tables will go to the Food Runners of San Francisco,a volunteer organization dedicated to alleviating hunger in San Francisco. Food Runners deliver over 10 tons of food a week to agencies feeding people in need.

Tickets can be purchased through the Malt Advocate website or at the Malt Advocate table the night of WhiskyFest. For more info, go to http://www.maltadvocate.com/whiskeyfest-sf-updates.asp

Malt Advocate table
Come visit us at the Malt Advocate table which will be located just inside of the Ballroom doors. The Charity Whisky tickets will be on sale here. We'll also have lots of whisky-related items for sale such as books, glassware and WhiskyFest apparel.

Last pour
Please note that the last pour at WhiskyFest will be at 9:45 pm as the event must end promptly at 10 pm. This will give you plenty of time to finish your last drink and socialize until the event ends.

No briefcases or backpacks
No briefcases or backpacks will be allowed in the ballroom for security reasons. Coat check will hold these items for you if you have to bring either of these items with you to WhiskyFest.

Please don't drive to WhiskyFest
Our number one priority is that everyone attending WhiskyFest gets home safely. There are a number of options available so that driving to the event is completely unnecessary. We urge you to take public transportation or stay the night at the hotel.
