What did you get for Christmas?

I just remembered a gift that I got for Christmas (whisky related). Not a bottle, but I did get a set of 8 Teroforma Whisky Stones. They are a soapstone, made in Vermont. The idea is to chill your whisky without diluting or changing the flavor.

I hadn't even heard of these before, does anyone have experience with something like this? I drink my whisky neat, but I suppose it could be interesting to see how chilling it, without diluting, could change things. Any thoughts?

I second that Nick. Why would you chill a single malt anyway? Maybe it would work fine with some blended whiskies in the summer.

I know, that's what I was thinking. I rarely even add water, forget about ice! But after all, it was a gift, and not something I had asked for. I wasn't about to say "What the heck am I to do with these?"

Ok, so I admit, the first thing that came to my mind was Beer when you said Budweiser.

I don't normally chill whisky but there were occasions when I was in Turkey when it was 45C in the shade and the whisky got way too hot very quickly even if it had been in the fridge. In those circumstances frozen stones give you more of a chance of enjoying your drink.

I got a Caol Ila Distillers Edition and a Talisker 10.

With which i was very pleased.
