Whisky sales/specials (Australia only)

Postby borgom » Sun May 03, 2009 11:58 pm

Thought I'd start a more generic thread for the Australian members to use.

There's some great specials at Vintage Cellars at the mo:
Highland Park 12 $59.99
Highland Park 18 $129.99
Laphroaig 15 $69.99

Old Pulteney 12 $49.99
Scapa 14 $69.99
Talisker 18 1litre $120

Laph 15 for $70 is the best whisky special i've ever seen, i've never seen this sold for less than $120.
I found these on sale in their online store so I don't know if the actual stores offer these specials.

Ok, looks like the edit gremlins at it again!
Not sure if the Laph 15 is an OB or an IB - will update details soon....

Thanks borgom,

They are some of the best prices I've seen and on some good gear as well. Looks like the Credit Card is about to take a serious hit and at that price I don't care if the Laph is an OB or IB!!

Cheers

Borgom can you post the link when you get chance as I can't find any of of those. They don't even list them for sale.

Thanks

The Laph is a Douglas Laig bottling which probably makes it one of the sherry matured Laph's floating around at the moment. Still great value at $70 a bottle though. I enjoyed mine enough to have recently finished one and have another waiting in the wings.

I'll PM you with some info dramtastic.

Ok, so I've now got the Vintage Cellars thing sorted, only problem is I'm finding a lot of the malts you can buy are state specific. So the DL Laph is not available here in QLD or the Tali 18.

However, I have put in an order for a DL Rosebank 15 for 70 bucks, gotta be the cheapest Rosebank here and a DL Linkwood 21 for $100.

Cheers

Well it's not a sale but VC and others have Supernova floating around at the moment for around $190 to $230. Thought a couple of you might be after a bottle - I was too curious to resist.

The best I can add at the moment is that the Bruichladdich Peat is on special at VC (Balaclava) for $60. I'm not suggesting that anyone actually rush out and buy it.

I've subcribed to this topic, just in case it pops up again.

Mmmm, I'm thinking after your luke warm first impressions, I'd rather pick up a bottle of Laph QC plus a bottle of Laph CS for about the same price. Or a Laga 16 and a Laga 12 CS or a.................you get the point.

Vintage Cellars are having an Islay thing at the moment A few things on special, and a couple of bonuses for members, one of which is a free copy of Jim Murray's Whisky Bible with the Ardbeg 10. It looks like stocks of the book are limited: I had to call a couple of stores before I found one with any left.

I was annoyed to get to the store only to be told that they didn't actually have any copies of the book left; when the reason I'd called was to confirm that they had, and even had them put a bottle and said nonexistent book aside for me to collect on the way home.

The HB Laph 18 was quite soft (for Laph) and somewhat ashy - I thought it was quite good but not as good as QC or CS. If you prefer Ardbeg to Laph then you might like this one but it wasn't a great one for me - certainly not worth the $130 price tag.
Haven't tried the HB Rosebank 17 but I've got a bottle of the HB 15 open and it's fantastic!

Oh, I still have half a bottle left of the Laphroaig, but that's a really good price. I wish I needed it. Was there anything else on special?

As an inverse anecdote, I saw it at the Prince Wine Store yesterday for $110. The Lagavulin 16 was something like $140. I just looked at the guy and said, "No, thank you."

Yeah, Prince is probably one of the most over priced places I've come across in Melb.
The Laph was the only whisky special that really stood out at DM's. As usual most of the deals were on wine or beer.
