Something of interest to those who like to buy limited edition bottles.

Various bottlings are launched for travel retail only ie:duty free shops in airports. The problem is you often don't hear about them and the staff are often clueless about Limited Editions. ( Last week I was told by the bloke at WoW in Heathrow that the 'old and rare' DL bottle of Port Ellen was in fact a 'distillery original bottling'. hmmmm

Lets try and keep this as a running thread for notification of Travel Retail Exclusive bottles, so those of us who don't have 2 hours spare to examine each bottle individually in the airport, know what to look for.

I am about to go on my holidays and shall be passing through London & Hong Kong, I have recently started collecting whisky and really like the idea of this thread, it will help me be able to allocate a budget and pin point some whiskies with investment potential without having to spend too much time looking over the array of whiskies on the shelves. Any other bottles that I should keep my eye out for?

As for the "exclusive for travel retail" label - that is a laugh most of the times.

My retailer hat the Bowmore 21 yo Port matured 4 weeks before the official start in travel retail sales.

What is exclusive are the real expensive bottlings that are sold only at a certain airport.

The rest - just wait and see and you will be able to get them at your retailer.

At least here in Germany.

Thats like the Laphroaig Triple wood, duty free, then very quickly availa le in germany. Thought it was coming on general release really hope it does.

I was wondering if anyone has been through Stockholm Airport recently? A friend of mine said they would go to the Duty Free there and pick me up a bottle of whisky if I tell them what to get. Does anyone know what is available there?

I actually found that link about an hour ago. it is a pretty detailed site. Not sure on the prices tho. They don't seem much better than what I can find here.
Maybe there is some stuff that is there that isn't on there site. Do you know of anything.

Sadly I don't know anything beyond what the link tells us. Most whisky (and other alcohol) is really expensive here, tax-free or not. I'm happy I don't live in Norway though, the prices there are truly horrible.

I am headed to Europe in a week and will be in Gatwick, Frankfurt, and Copenhagen airports. Does anyone have any suggestions on bottles I shouldn't pass up on in any of the travel retail shops?
