worst whisky ideas

Postby robinconnect » Wed Jul 15, 2009 3:54 pm

Can anyone suggest the worst marketing idea they have ever heard of for a malt whisky? Doing a magazine article and seeking some inspiration! Rankin selling nudie pics of his wife is an example of a risque' marketing idea and only time will tell if it will be a success. But are there more? Really keen to talk to anyone who can think of any!

It's not malt whisky but it sure is bad marketing.

I thought they weren't "nudie" pics, but more artistic and such. What's so bad about that?

Well here's some interesting whisky ads:

Image

Geez. If "Clan Campbell Lands" are so scary, I wonder what the whisky is like? :o

This isn't a whisky ad but I wish it was:

Hahaha. Sure, it's harmless enough-Aberlour 10yrs. But before long, this kid will progress to hard stuff-Aberlour A'bunadh. :D

This ad just doesn't do it for me:

Who was the bright (dumb) thing that attempted to associate a forestry log worker and chainsaw with whisky? Oh, and the cornball slogan. You know, a "cut above the rest".

Ugh! Get it? "Cut?" As in cutting with the chainsaw? Sorry, I'm just being dramatic here. I mean for frigging sakes people. Should you really be drinking whisky whilst operating a chainsaw? I hope someone went medieval on the ass of the person who came up with that one.

Okay ladies, prepare to roll your eyes:

All I can say is:

"DAMN STRAIGHT!!!"

Hahahaha. Look at all those manly men doing manly things. I wonder in all these years, what has improved more? Canadian Club whisky or Canadian Club whisky ads?

And speaking of "in all these years", just look at how whisky ads have changed:

   My goodness, what is more shocking? The fact that whisky is being marketed for women or that 2 women are kissing? Or that 2 women who kiss would like whisky?

Oh man, I need to sit down for a minute................... :insane:

My head is spinning. I need to get back to good old fashioned whisky values. Here's another classic from Canadian Club:

Again I say:

"DAMN STRAIGHT!!!!". No moisturisers or pink cocktails for these straight whisky men. No chicks kissing each other either. Hahahaha.

This is being e-mailed to my brother ASAP. Whenever we get together and their kids are to excited at bed time, I've been telling him to rub whisky on their gums and they'll sleep like babies. The looks my sister-in-law used to give me. :P

I'm not entirely sure that an ad showing two women kissing is being directed at women.

Irishwhiskeynotes has an interesting article on whiskey and green tea.

I think the worst whisky idea ever had to be powdered whisky. I believe the SWA hit the roof at the time.
