What's On Your Wishlist?

Postby Wub » Sat Aug 15, 2009 5:13 pm

This can cover whiskies that you intend to buy soon, whiskies that you would buy if you happened to come into unexpected funds, and whiskies that you're not ever likely to buy given your financial situation. It should probably only include whiskies that you haven't bought before.

Examples of unacceptable replies:
"All of them."
"Kildalton 12yo bottled 1835."

My own wishlist at the moment is very modest:
Aberlour A'bundadh, which will propbably be my next purchase.
Laphoaig CS, which I haven't seen anywhere yet.
Caol Ila CS, another one I haven't seen.
Bunnahabhain (any expression), to complete my circuit of Islay.

It'll be either a Laph QC or 18yo (maybe both, depending on my bank account). I'm also looking for an Ardbeg 1975 28yo G&M or a Caol Ila 1979 28yo Platinum Selection.

Yamazaki 18 and Hibiki 17. Tasted both at a festival and desperately awaiting their availability in the Tralfamadorian Wine Monopoly.

Shoot I forgot the Littlemill 17. Looking at this as something to share around with new whisky drinkers in say 5-10 years when you struggle to find it at reasonable prices.

Like Les I also have the PC8 on my wishlist, also a couple 3 of the new Glendronach Single Casks Cask Strengths and one on my wishlist will be here in a few days (already shipped!) an Imperial 25yo Signatory Sherry CS.

Cheers!

Starting with older expressions of whiskies I enjoy, and then a long list of distilleries that aren't readily available in my region. Really none of these are readily available, which is why I haven't tried them yet.

Glen Garioch 15
Glenfarclas 15, 17, 21
Longrow 14
Oban 18
Talisker 18
Yamazaki 18
Ben Nevis
Bladnoch
Bruichladdich
Cardhu
Edradour
Glengoyne
Glenkinchie
Ledaig
Linkwood
Longmorn

Of course I'm with you on the Japanese theme Mr F.
I'm hoping to pick up some sort of the following while in Japan.

Karuizawa
Hanyu(Ichiro's)
Hakushu(Suntory)
The first two can be very hard to find.

If they were available to buy here in Australia and I had the funds, some of the Springers Jazz has.

So far I haven't spent more than $70 on a single bottle, so many expressions have been out of reach so far. The first I expect to splurge on is Lagavulin 16.

I'd love to try the Glen Garioch 21 and an old Bowmore. When Laphroaig 18 appears here I'll seriously consider buying it, and in my dreams, Laphroaig 30!

Not to cause thread drift, but fyi, Astor Wines in NYC has the Lagavulin 16 for $50. Just in case you come into town...

Good luck!

Cost of flights Australia to Japan return, AUD$400
Money I saved on buying Japanese whisky in Japan rather than Australia around AUD$300(purchases last time I was there).

For me that's virtually a free holiday. :)

The second of my wishlist should soon be a reality. I put in my pre-order through RMW for a couple of the Glendronachs yesterday, 1992 Cask 1140 and 1993 Cask 523.

Where does it begin? where will it end?

Just a few...

A good old fashioned sherried Macallan. like a vintage 18, or something like the "Vintage House Macallan" of 4 years ago...or the ESC 5 I sampled at their Turnberry tasting in '04
Another 23 YO SMOS Bowmore...
A crate of Lagavulin 21;
Ardbeg 1977, 1975;
Any Rosebank;
Bladnoch 10 F&F;
The 5 YO SMWS Arran Nick sent me a sample of - a dessert trolley in a glass.
Yamazaki 18YO
Replacement Glen Moray mountain Oak;

etc...

...and to be able to afford them!

Invergordon - any Bladnoch forum bottling
Laphroaig 30
Bruichladdich 3D just might find it still on a shelf for a reasonable shelf.

Whiskies that you intend to buy soon: Gordon & McPhail Strathisla 25 Years, Glenfarclas 25 years - the price is right.

Whiskies that you would buy if you happened to come into unexpected funds: Gordon & McPhail Strathisla 40 Years - the only 40y/o I'll ever be able to afford, I might actually buy this instead of the 25y/o as I could ask Mrs. Chef for the 25y/o as combined b-day gift/Christmas present.

Whisky I'll probably buy if I don't buy the G&M 40y/o:
Caol Ila 18y/o
Laphroaig 18y/o
Talisker 18y/o
Campbelltown Loch 30y/o

Whiskies that you're not ever likely to buy given your financial situation:
Any "collectors grade" whisky.

Re: What's On Your Wishlist?

Postby MoreDalmore » Mon Aug 17, 2009 5:32 pm

These are the malts I intend to include in my next 2 buys :

Balvenie 12 Double Wood
The Dalmore 15 or The Dalmore Grand Reserva
Bowmore 12 or Bowmore 18
The Arran Madeira Cask Finish or The Arran Pomerol Bordeaux Wine Cask Finish

I never had any Balvenie up till now but after reading tasting notes on the web I think this one I will like.

And of course I will have to try as many as Dalmore as I can 8) ; so far I had 3 ( new 12, 12 Black Isle and 12 Black Pearl )

I tried the Bowmore 12 once and at that time it didn't make a big impression on me :| . But it's been a long time since and I now know more about drinking whisky ( from the right glass ! ) so I'll will be much more able to compare it to other whiskies.

I loved the Arran 12 and I want to compare the Madeira Cask Finish with the Black Pearl

Buying malts is surely addictive :wink: and fun :D

Hazelwood 107 to go with my Centennial and 105.
Balvenie 1951 Vintage Cask, I might be able to afford this one, the 1952 Cask 191 is far too much.

Hey 'sabb, just my opinion but don't buy the IB OMC Springbank 10 you see at Dan Murpheys. You need to go to your local Vintage Cellars and get the Hart Brothers Springbank 11 Portwood finished, stellar whisky and cheaper as well.
