Over the long weekend opened up a new purchase:

Hibiki 12yo Japanese Blended Whisky 43%

Hit is pretty hard too, down about a 3rd so far...

I am so glad that this has hit the US...

On Christmas morning I opened up a bottle that I've had for quite some time. Highland Park 1975/2001 ( 50%, Scott's Selection ). It was excellent I might add, I'd put it up against any other HP in that age group for sure!

Yes, it is a dandy HP! I had a bottle of the same while in New Zealand/Australia several years ago and promptly bought a second on my return that I still have for future reference. As I wrote in another thread, Scott's Selection does nice HP's.

That's a shame - what didn't you like?

It's a bit too woody (go figure). And that's really the only difference I get out of it. None of the vanilla or spices I'd expected and I don't find much of the sweetness others suggest.

Oh certainly. It's mostly a matter of not living up to my expectations (hopes, dreams, etc). It'll get plenty of opportunity to change my mind over the next few months.

Opened Macallan Speymalt 1970 46% by G&M last night. Takes time to open but it's VERY worth it..
The nose is very beautiful and complex, full of dried plums and salt and something floral I couldn't put a name on *yet*.
Palate is very "classical" *with my small experience with Macallan and especially old ones*, feels like an old car or a beautifully made antique cabinet round with dark caramel, candied citrus peels and nuts (?) then salt again and a finish strong on liquorice, the dark dry one, ..
Very delicious whisky. I don't know about the OB but this one was very affordable and was a great buy !

I have just been given a bottle of Glenmorangie 10, original distillery bottling from around 5 years ago, as somebody who knew me died and wanted me to have it. I will be interested to re visit this as I have not tried a "regular" Glenmo for some time.

I have the 1973 version and I really like it too. These are nice affordable Macallans, unlike the OBs in the same age range.
