I was worried about you Nick. I thought you might have to go to the tap to get a "pour". :P Hm, not likely to open anything until January. At this point, it is likely that I will be opening 6 to 8 bottles. :iwbrnt:

Sazerac 18 2010 about a week ago. Didn't do much for me at first, but seems to be opening up nicely.

Wiser's Legacy Pot Still Canadian Rye Whisky - 45%ABV...

This relatively hard-to-come-by (the first local shipment sold out in a veritable 'flash') issue supposedly represents a successor to last year's Red Letter specialty bottling, and likely lies somewhere betwen that one and the Wiser's Small Batch edition, both cost-wise and flavour-wise.

First impressions are very favourable... Rich in flavour and texture. Dense honeyed fruitiness (banana to the fore) counterbalanced by rye spiciness. Ultra-smooth, yet with enough of a spirited backdrop to keep matters moving along in the mouth. Good length. Oh so drinkable!

Yep opened plenty, I just don't post it here because if you see me post in Latest Purchase you can be pretty sure that it's going to be opened. Here's a typical sequence of events.
Wander into liqour store (you know, just browsing).
See bottle of Tali 18 on special.
Feel guilty about buying for a minute or two because bought 12 bottles of whisky two weeks before.
Fein walking out the door then turn around, go back to whisky and grab.
Put in seat next to me for ride home, looking longingly at said bottle while thinking about ways to hide evidence from the Mrs.
Take bottle into house and look at all the bottles open already.
Open bottle anyway because what the heck, I have no will power!

how does it compare to the regular 7yo weller?

Couldn't tell you - the 7y isn't available around here so I haven't tried it. This one is damned fine, though.

I do not know if it is just my tastes but it seems the Speyburn behaved much the same way as the Macallan 12 I picked up, in the sense that it really needs some exposure to air to mellow a bit, so much so that it is not until the bottle has been stored with a dram or two poured out for a few days, that it does eventually get around to loosing a certain sharp edge.

But I'll be sure to report back in a little bit, but it is okay, not great, but certainly not bad, I'd still rate it among many well known Scottish Blends.

I had the pleasure of emptying a bottle in three sessions at the expense of someone else. Not bad but lacking a bit in the nose, palate and finish parts. And to put in a Swedes perspective for another ~three Euros I could get a bottle of Aberlour 10 which is head and shoulders above the Speyburn. But on the other hand the Speyburn is head and shoulders above the Famous Grouse NAS which is only ~four Euro cheaper.

It really is one of the lesser known stills I guess but there's lots of nice Glenburgie out there. It's one I always try if it's on offer and I'm seldom disappointed.
