Meanwhile just opened a Corryvreckan general release. Felt I owed myself a treat after a 14 hour working day on a Sunday (unpaid!).
Hoping it would be reasonably similar to the committee release and from my memory, it is very close indeed!
Lovely

Thanks N!

Day after Christmas was the day I opened Bruichladdich 12 Second Edition. Finally have figured it out and it's really light... I made the mistake of having it after Noah's Mill the other night and it just was this estery, alcoholic mess on my palate. Caught the malty notes and the phenolic undercurrent today and it all came together. That being said, it's a far cry from the Golder Still which was my introduction to Bruichladdich... we'll see how this on goes.

And i compared them. :P

Seriously though, and unfortunately, they are different. The 1st release ( L10123 ) is deeper richer and more complex. Particularly on the 'orange fruitcake'. The 2nd ( L10218/48 ) still represents a good buy ( especially with the current £14 offer ), it's just a weaker beast with a slight hint of 'baby sick' - it is still nice mind.

Since my last post, I've opened Redbreast 12 (fantastic mouthfeel and balance of pure pot still and sherry influence) and Glenfarclas 105 (a monster of a whisky), as well as Woodford Reserve.

Any thoughts on these? Would be interesting to see your thoughts on the 15 v 18 and then compare back to the Glenfiddich tasting.

Not really. I've tried it twice, but haven't been 100% either time. I've been sick or recovering from being sick for the better part of two months now. I did enjoy it, though, for what that's worth.

Haven't found anything exceptional or for that matter really interesting from Glendullan but it hasn't been to the point of boredom.

Just opened the black bottle, I think this is going to find its way in to the trash bin soon, this is incredibly too delicious and drinkable.

Thomas Handy Sazerac Rye (2010). Unbelievably in-your-face after the smooth Noah's Mill, Caol Ila and Bruichladdich 12 I've been having recently. Good but definitely will take some experimenting to find the right way to enjoy it.

Because I realize I know have much more Islay than any other whisky in my apartment, I figured it would be best to open another Islay, grabbing McClelland's Islay.

Old Pulteney 12. Been on my list for a while and the pair of Glencairn glasses that came with it made the purchase easy. I'm impressed...it's very good for the price. A little water and a little time and you have something worth savouring. OP12 goes into my regular rotation now.

In conjunction with my unexpected bottle-kill out of town, I now have a new bottle open. Aberlour a'bunadh, batch 32... first encounter with a'bunadh if you'll believe that.

There is a lot of truth here! I killed my bottle of Old Pulteney 12 in November. Bought it for our tasting on October 30th and had it finished in under a month. I remember it being super fantastic. Was roaming my favorite "scotch mart" yesterday and saw that gift pack with the Glencairns (REAL Glencarins by the way) and just HAD to pick it up! Brought it home and, while it was certainly good, there was nothing interesting about it. A few drops of water and it really turned into something interesting! Can't wait to pick up the 17 next!
