Old Pulteney 12. Been on my list for a while and the pair of Glencairn glasses that came with it made the purchase easy. I'm impressed...it's very good for the price. A little water and a little time and you have something worth savouring. OP12 goes into my regular rotation now.

There is a lot of truth here! I killed my bottle of Old Pulteney 12 in November. Bought it for our tasting on October 30th and had it finished in under a month. I remember it being super fantastic. Was roaming my favorite "scotch mart" yesterday and saw that gift pack with the Glencairns (REAL Glencarins by the way) and just HAD to pick it up! Brought it home and, while it was certainly good, there was nothing interesting about it. A few drops of water and it really turned into something interesting! Can't wait to pick up the 17 next!

Caol Ila Moch.

Beautiful distinct Caol Ila nose/taste yet soft and with some sweetness, honey and caramel. Its moderateness makes it a very nice every day Islay, no matter the time of day (well, after noon that is).

For less than €30 an absolute no-brainer!

Bowmore 12 Mini - hadn't tried this before and very pleasantly surprised.

Douglas laing & Co. Ltd. Big Peat... Like the whisky (an obviously well crafted melding of Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila - definitely the predominant component - and a smaller quantity of Port Ellen) and like the Balvenie-style bottle, too.

Balvenie 12 DoubleWood. Pleasant on the nose but the palate is dull, and the finish is short.

Moved on to the Balvenie 21 PortWood. Much better.

I had gotten two bottles of this at $40/each awhile back and was hesitant to open them as I wasn't sure of their continued availability. I had the 102 at a Balvenie/Glenfiddich tasting and it's really one of my favorites!

So last night I found them in a shop for $50/each. Picked up 2 more bottles which meant it was time to crack one! MMMMMM Even my wife liked it!

Quite good I think. Preferable to the bottle of 16 I have open. I didn't manage to get hold of last year's, so I can't say how it compares in that regard. But hell, if you've got two one should definitely be open!
