On a recent trip to the liquor store, I was offered some Nikka Pure Malt Black label and a couple other whiskys not available in the U.S. (legally). It made me wonder if this is a common occurance or just lucky?
Probably shop specific. A local store has an owner who travels internationally quite a bit, and you'll see these one-off bottles on the shelves, or more commonly in the back, on occasion.
Always nice to see, though - with 750ml and 43% being the standard, it is a welcome sight.

Would you mind PMing me the location of this liquor store? I don't seem to be able to pm you. What were the others? Also Japanese?
