Which ONE do you "repeat" buy most often ?

Postby SixCats! » Thu May 13, 2010 12:13 pm

Hi all,

Just wondering which ONE Whiskey/Whisky you most often replace.
Any basic information (such as Whiskey region, year, price, etc.) would be helpful to a "newbie" such as myself. Since I am new to this hobby, I haven't too much experience/history in repeat buying. Then again, I polished off my first bottle of REDBREAST rather quickly (LOVE it) and I purchased two more bottles while passing through NH on Mother's Day. The State of NH Liquor Store pricing on REDBREAST was $43.00 per bottle which is about five dollars less per bottle than in the State of Maine.

The one whisky I've purchased more than any other is Oban 14. It was my gateway dram and one I will always come back to.

Talisker 10 and Clynelish 14 are right up there, too. Unfortunately the Clynelish has recently been de-listed in NH, so I'll have to purchase it online from now on :x

By the way, you might appreciate this link if you're not familiar with it already:

http://www.nh.gov/liquor/index.shtml
I should probably make it my homepage since I visit so regularly :D

Can't say I exactly remember but it would be either Aberlour 10 or BNJ. The main reason is the quality to price ratio of these in Australia.

That would be Lagavulin 16yo, although the Ardbeg Ten and Uigeadail come close.

Hi all,

Thank you for all the replies to my post! I do believe I'm beginning to see a trend, that is to say, it appears that many WM members like ISLAY! Lock, I too should make the NH State Liquor Store (product search box) my home page as well. Oooh Lock, check the NH search box again for Clynelish 14. I found three NH stores still carrying Clynelish 14
(a total of eight bottles). If you are not too far from Portland, Maine, RSVP Liquors has a sale this month on Clynelish 14 for $42.00
(plus Maine tax) which is LESS than NH (how rare is that) ?
As a matter of fact, CAOL ILA 12 is also LESS expensive this month in Maine as well ($47.00 plus Maine tax). Arrrrrr, if I only had more money!

As for the ONE, Aberlour a'bunadh. I've been buying and drinking the "sherry bomb" a'bunadh since 2001 when I got my first batch #6. At the moment I have 9 unopened in stock (different batches).

Cheers!

I'm not certain which bottle I return to the most, but it is probably Lagavulin 16.

I still like to buy mostly something new as I just started really enjoying all kinds of whisky since about 2 years now.

But if I want to buy 1 of my favourites which happens to be not too expensive I always come back to Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban ( € 43,- for 1 liter )

Ardbeg Ten. It's the one bottle that always tastes great no matter my mood or palate condition. It normally runs $70+US but I found a couple places awhile back that had it for $39US, so I cleaned them out, went back a couple months later and cleaned them out again. Various years from L4-L9. I now have 27 bottles that should last a few years.

Up until about 3 years ago, I didn't. However, things have changed.

Most purchased: Traverso's Glenfarclas 11, single cask
Most purchased 2010: PlowedRiach, single cask BenRiach for PLOWED Whisky Society
Most purchased OBs: difficult to say but likely Macallan 12 or HP 12
Others: Ardbeg 10, Beist, Balvenie Doublewood, Glenlivet 12, Glenfiddich 12, Glenfiddich 15, Bowmore Legend

Ardbeg 10 is a clear winner for me when it comes to purchases, however when it comes to gifts HP12 knocks it into a cocked hat.

I've been drinking A10 for 5 years and my appreciation has only grown. I've spent a lot of $$ on variety but there's something to be said for tried and true favorites. I'm more concerned with losing interest in all drinks with 210 bottles bunkered.

That's probably the ONE of late for me too.

Used to be Ardbeg 10, but as Nick pointed out to the gentleman who "cleaned up" at $39 a bottle, tastes do change!

Having said that, I never say no to Ardbeg...as Will Rogers said: :)

ardbeg corryvreckan
laphroaig 10 CS

and i am definitely seeing the yamazaki 12 as a repeat

That would be a tie between the Ardbeg 10 and the Glenlevit Nadurra. However taking into account all my Ardbegs, then Ardbeg wins hands down (currently 21 bottles of various Ardbegs). I used to love only Speysiders, that is why the Nadurra is such a repeat purchase as I find it a classic combination of flavour and strength.

Hi D,

Twenty one bottles! Damn! Way to go!

I have just started to (slowly) collect both Irish Whiskey and Scotch Whisky. I now have about six bottles stored away until (hopefully) Fall.
So far, I have (2) REDBREAST, (1) JAMESON 12, (1) HIGHLAND PARK 12,
(1) ARDBEG TEN, and...whoops...make that five bottles! I've already opened my one bottle of "The Irishman Original Clan" Irish Whiskey. Arrrrrr, Fall is a long ways off! I hope I can hold out until then.
(Note to self) I must buy more Whiskies!

Hi all,

Well, since starting this thread I have bought (just a few) bottles of both Irish and Scotch to "store away" until Fall. I don't count those as "repeat" buys. However, I made my first "repeat" purchase yesterday to enjoy/open now. My first "repeat" buy was Bushmills "BLACK BUSH".
Ummmm, BLACK BUSH gooood! Perhaps too damn good!

Hi all,

Somebody stop me! I can't stop buying Irish Whiskey. I made another trip to the NH State Liquor Store today and purchased yet another bottle of JAMESON 12 and BLACK BUSH ($30.99 each) before the sale ends. I now have (in my upstart collection) ten unopened bottles: REDBREAST, JAMESON 12, BLACK BUSH & "THE IRISHMAN ORIGINAL CLAN" (two of each) and one bottle each of (Scotch Whisky) HIGHLAND PARK 12 and ARDBEG 10. I presently have six open bottles, three Irish Whiskey and three Scotch Whisky. I have yet to buy that ONE (most often repeat buy) as it's a four way tie. However, I THINK my most often repeat purchase will be BLACK BUSH (over REDBREAST) because of it's EXCELLENT taste and lower cost.
