Rita - the Scottish mother of Japanese whisky

Postby whiskyinjapan » Tue Nov 30, 2010 1:30 am

Good morning from sunny Tokyo...

This weekend the Japan Times ran a story on Rita Taketsuru - the Glasgow-born woman who brought the water of life to the land of the rising sun...

In 1920, Rita followed her husband (Masataka - the founder of Nikka Whisky) halfway around the world. She suffered persecution by the secret police in WW2 but she never returned to Scotland - and she's buried overlooking the distillery.

It's an interesting read - and you can see it here: http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/ ... 128x1.html

Best,

A book was written on the topic- 'Japanese whisky- Scotch Blend' or such like, a good read.
