Smelling whisky residue. Anyone else have this habit?

Don't know about other whisky or spirits, since I mainly drink single malts, but I have this habit of leaving my glass unwashed for hours after finishing the last drops. I find that as the alcohol evaporates, leaving the residue behind in the glass, the smell is REALLY JUST AWESOME!! It's like the essence of that malt is left behind. I just love that smell. The fiancee thinks its gross.

Yes! There are some people that after they have their drams and write notes, they also investigate what the empty glass the next morning brings. Some of us do that. I dont anymore and end up washing the glasses when Im done.

I smell the glass quite often. Sometimes it's the next morning. Other times, I investigate the glass prior to anything being poured.

YES! Often the residue smells great!

YES I DO IT!!!
Every time that I taste a whisky at home I cover the empty glass and I will leave it there on the desk.
I smell it the next morning, next evening and so on until all flavours disappear...
Ardbeg TEN evolves great...other spirits evevole in bad way like rhum or grappa.

i've noticed this too. i don't usually go out of my way to leave them out, but when i find a glass the next day i'll always have a sniff. to me, the wood is always greatly enhanced - but it almost always comes out smelling like pine.
