What is your current whisky want?

Postby lockejn » Mon Feb 28, 2011 6:30 pm

I often find myself waiting for a particular whisky. Either it's something new the distillery has just announced, or something new coming to the local shops, something a bit more expensive I'm saving up for, or something I've ordered online that hasn't arrived yet. It seems as soon as the object of my obsession is in hand, another pops into focus - I'm always seeking the next great pour.

So what is your current whisky want? What new release(s) are you most looking forward to? What fancy, special bottle has its own savings account?

I'm hoping to pick up a bottle of the Glenmorangie Finealta any day now. The state has purchased a bunch of it, but it hasn't appeared on shelves yet. I'm hoping they didn't skimp out on the peat too much - most reviews seem to indicate they may have.

Also toying with the idea of splitting a bottle of Jameson 18 with a co-worker. Again, the state purchased a few bottles, but haven't shelved it yet. Irish whiskey doesn't do a whole lot for me, but I'm always eager to try new things and half of $90 isn't terrible.

Almost forgot (which is part of the reason I started this thread) Johnnie Walker Double Black. I'm pretty excited about that one, but it's been quite a long wait.

I would love to be able to get an older Speyburn. I guess they don't (often) make it across the pond.

Looking forward to the new Knob Creek Single Barrel. I'm not a huge KC fan, but NCF and higher ABV can't hurt.

Also wish I could get hold of a bottle of WT Rye without paying to ship it. Apparently it's not very popular anywhere in the northeast.

Anything Japanese. :)

As far as bourbons go, I've always wanted a George T Stagg, never quite had the finances though. :(

Highland Park 12 Year Old Saint Magnus... I wish my regional liquor board would hurry up and place the bottles it's apparently ordered on the shelves.

I've had a Nikon D7000 DSLR kit with a Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II lens on back order for the last month but it looks like that deal is going to fall through since that sale ends next week. So to ease my sorrow I've been eying a recent Glenlochy 29yo Signatory Cask Strength Edition at Loch Fynes.

Cheers!

I have a spare Snow Phoenix if anyone is interested in some kind of exchange?

I think I'd go for the Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix as well.

But then again, if I got started, it could be a very long list!

I'm keen to try this Ardbeg alligator out. Also any of the elements. Also would like to track down a 77 bottling (my birth year), but realise this may be difficult to get a) something I like, and less likely b) something I can afford

Ardbeg Alligator will be a definite purchase, but am also lining up the Benromach Fumosus range (but are hard to track down), Yoichi 10 and likely the Bunna 16 Manzanilla Wood Finish and Toiteach.

Oban 18! I've been lusting after this for quite some time, but never could bring myself to spend $140+ to have a bottle shipped in. Well, looks like the state stores may be getting some soon, and at a jaw-dropping price of $64.99! Definitely can't wait.

I'm currently waiting on several to arrive at the state stores:

Jameson Gold Reserve
WhistlePig Rye
Glen Grant 10
And an unknown 2x 375ml pack of Woodford Reserve ryes that mysteriously appeared in the database with no further detail.

if it's in your area. The Amrut peated cask strength is the one.

I haven't had the Farclas 40 but I definitely agree about the Amrut Fusion. Just average.

Prices are just skyrocketing these days -
an obscure local shop had a
Glendronach 1968 (25 yo) - $399
Macallan 1841 Replica - $299
Oban 1969 (32 yo) - $299

I would like these as they are not seen too often - but not sure of the prices - opinions ...
