Isle of Jura Prophecy... One of my very favourite medium-peated whiskies of late.

It's after midnight, so it's technically last night...

Twelve different bottles from Buffalo Trace's Single Barrel Project. Release #3, barrels 8, 24, 40, 56, 72, 88, 104, 120, 136, 152, 167, 184.

Also, and Aberlour 16, and Octomore Comus (4.2).

Went to a new dedicated whisky bar that's just opened up in Brisbane. It's owned by the proprietors of the Nant distillery in Tasmania. A work in progress but I had the following all of which I'd never tried before.

Nant Cask French Oak Sherry Cask No1 2008 4YO 43%
Nant French Oak Port Cask 43%
Nant Bourbon Barrel 2008 4YO 63% which was the best of the 3
Old Pulteney 17 nice fruity dram but I was expecting a bit more as this is quite highly regarded. Lacked body at least on this showing.
Amrut Intermediate Sherry 57.1% Again another one that's had quite a few raves with scores up to 94 and Serge 91. In a word, I found it dissapointing.
Longrow 14 now this is my kind o' whisky. Shellfish, coconut, malt and smoke. Pour me another!

I agree with the OP17. I find it flat as a pancake, and pretty unexciting. I don't quite get the rave reviews. But the Longrow 14 is a personal favourite.

Last night some Glenmo Original, bought on the cheap. I'm a sucker for cheap malt and i got a lot to get through, in time for the xmas price reductions.

I bought OP 17 as a celebration dram. I do have to say its a dram to have very early in the evening, as having it after even a few whiskies could cause nearly all of its subtlety to be lost. In my opionion its not amazingly interesting, but its solid, well put together, and as long as everything isn't numb from to much other whisky its incredibly well put together. But yes, for the price, it leaves a little to be desired.

Well last night was about 15 minutes ago but
Yamazaki 18 fair balance between cask types
Yamazaki 1984 ok maybe not worth a thousand bucks a bottle but certainly worth all the accolades
Yamazaki 25 WWA single malt of the year 2012 this has been dominated by old, overly woody and dry elements. Definititely not worth the price of admission(. A thousand dollars

It's ok. And I absolutely agree about the Yama '84. Great whisky but not $1000 worth.

I'll qualify my statement. I don't believe any whisky is worth $1000. Sometimes however, that is what we are asked to pay.

True, I'm hardpressed to find something worth that much except as maybe as a once in a lifetime experience.

My own 'house-blend' of 11 malts, which was very well received

Just a dram of Lagavulin 16yo.

Today at a client lunch, I went to a restaurant which did not have ANY single malts! I had to settle for a Johnny Walker Green Label, which was actually rather smooth.

I chastised the owner, who asked me what he should get to address the dearth of single malt. He has agreed to have an Argbeg Ui on the shelf in future, just for me!!

Started off last night giving Monkey Shoulder one more chance. Awful. Poured the rest of the bottle down the sink. Revolting. :yuk:

Settled down with a dram of Lagavulin 16yo instead. Much more acceptable.
