Finished off a G&M 1993 Miltonduff. It had gone quite flat by the end of the bottle, mostly just orange and mint.

Got an early start to Thanksgiving with a Laddie 1970 and a Springbank 16yo RumWood.

I am thankful for wonderful single malts and my lovely wife. :D

Oddbins Speyside Love Shovel 12yo. Flowery fruit salad. And great packaging - who wouldn't want to open a bottle from a silver tube with a naked manly angel on it? Genius.

 Can we say that here? :P

As far as the question goes, I think I could resist.

We know you like the packaging  but what about the contents?

Well they didn't put him on me bottle to be ignored :P It's light and simple and floral, like a summer picnic - posies of flowers, honey, a little white bread, shared bags of boiled sweets like pear drops and some fruit salad. Sometimes marketing works very well for me and even though I know the silvery angel on a cloud is gimmick, I buy. It's not the most memorable dram, but that's fine :)

Duncan Taylor 27 yr old Brora - one of the most exceptional whiskies i have had in a long time - LFW has a few more left and well worth the spend - i am heading back up to get a keeper tomorrow - floral and light and lasting - exceptional!

Love shovel is a good drink but no real depth - had a bottle and i don't remember savouring it that much - pleasant but not that memorable - though good price and catchy name - Oddbins still have plenty left

Some Crown Royal and Drambuie last night. Nothing exceptional for the CR. The rye and corn standout but I wish it had more character. The Drambuie is ultra sweet and very herbal-licorice.

I had an Oban DE. It was the first time I'd had it and I was blown away. Fantastic.

Oh, I had a Laphroaig QC and a Dalmore 12 too, also very nice.

I read through your notes. (no need to look up terms) Gives me hope for 3 to 8 years down the road. It didn't seem like you had any problems with it being merely a 7 yo either.

Other people can post links to their sites and blogs but I can't?

Okay, here then:

Glass: Glencairn (of course).

C: Very light gold.

N: Light peat and barley with a smidgen (look it up) of honey roast nuts. Maybe a hint of banana. This just smells like good, lightly peated barley matured in bourbon casks. No tinkering. No nonsense.

M: Soft and subtle at first, almost like there's nothing there and then barley sugars with a sweet honey coating wash over the tongue and gums like a gentle wave of yumminess lapping at a sandy beach of candy.

F: A lovely sweetness that lingers in all the nooks and crannies (look those up too) for a while but never quite disappears completely. Lightly oily.

Comment: Well, after all the finishes and ACEing and dressing up it's great to taste a Bruichladdich that is just lightly peated new make in a barrel for a few years and then bottled. This gives hope for the future and is dressed up in rather funky turquoise packaging to keep trendies happy too. One for the tastebuds and the loft apartment.

Is that better?

SMWS #33.71 - Ardbeg 10yo, 1998 55.8%

Well, it didn't take me long to open this one up, considering I just received it yesterday.

On the nose it's got the fireplace smokiness to it along with just a hint of vanilla and some saltiness/maritime notes. The palate starts on the sweet side with some toffee that's evident, then explodes with the tarry, zesty, medicinal notes that I just love in Ardbeg. The finish is very long with seaweed, peaty, tarry notes.

This is clearly another great Society cask, I can't wait to try it again. I followed this up with a Renaissance, and I found the 33.71 to start sweeter, and finish much much longer, and much more tarry and medicinal. Where the Ren is more balanced from start to finish and doesn't have the briny/seaweed notes that this one did.
