Benriach 12 Year Old, Matured in Sherry Wood (46%ABV, aged in Pédro Ximénez and Oloroso oak, not chill-filtered & natural colour)... Quite the bargain, this one, given the quality. Very clean Sherry influence with oodles of fruitcake flavour and a nice top-layer of spirit and spices.

It's nice to come across such reasonably priced gems, especially given the industry trend toward more expensive offerings these days.

It's the 1972 with ABV of 58.64%.

Indeed, Ganga, let me know the time and place and I will be there!

Picked up a Blantons Bourbon, $5.00 off at the local LCBO. Never tried any bourbon before, own three now. I liked the race horse on the cork and the discount.

I may have to have a sample or three this long weekend. ("Bank holi" for those in the UK)

Hi,

Well I looked at my cupboard to see SMWS bottling's 33.95 (Ardbeg), 33.115 (Ardbeg), 76.85 (Mortlach), and the bizarre 27.86 (Springbank) and as it isn't practical for me to visit the SMWS and buying by description is proving too much of a gamble (the Springbank doesn't come close to the quality of the Ardbeg's) I decided to find out what's going on outside the SMWS which brought me here.

My tastes are strangely polarized in that I enjoy a nice light/sweet Arran or Linkwood but also love Islay malts (my favourite has changed through the years... Bowmore then Lagavulin then Laphroig then Talisker (I know it's Skye) then back to Talisker and more recently Caol Isla and Ardbeg (my love of Laphroig only grows as the years pass).

So I have done some lurking and reading and placed an order which I will post on the usual place.

Cheers,
Phasechange (for professional reasons I don't use my real name online)

sorry... I confused my tabs.. that was meant for the new members thread.

I meant to publish this here...

I haven't bought whisky that isn't a single cask SMWS bottling for a long time (my Mum does supply Talisker whenever she sees me though). My new order placed on Friday to reinvigorate my poor little collection was..

anCnoc 12 Year Old
Aberlour a'Bunadh Batch 44 (plus one for my father in law)

and I am not familiar with either but I couldn't wait so I popped out and bought a Glenfiddich 15 which has turned out to be a real joy and a bargain.

Unfortunately I was on a roll after then Glenfiddich and decided to follow this with another online order today for...

Berry's Own Glen Grant 1974 37 Years Old Cask 7643 [I hope this is a bit like the Linkwood 1938 45 year old which is the best whisky I have ever enjoyed]
Ardbeg Uigeadail
Talisker Storm

I hope this proves to be a real teat.

Regards,
Premiumbond

Not really a purchase unless you count service hours. I did a favor for a friend and my reimbursement was a bottle of Jurgensen's 16 yo KSB, 45.2%, bottle 97, 4/5 qt.

A google search came up with this: http://www.bourbonenthusiast.com/forum/ ... =23&t=6446

I think the bottle is at least the mid 70s as it does not have the 750 ml designation along with 4/5 qt representing the transitional phase in the US from 4/5 qt to 750 ml.

Highland Park 12.

Just wanted to try it out, as heard so much great reviews about it.
Plus, it came with a 50ml 18yo bottle.

Can't wait to try it.
