Picked up some Finealta and Balvenie 14y Rum Cask.

Also got what was apparently the last three bottles of Glendronach 15 in the area, but that's not for me - it's for a tasting.

What were your thoughts on the AP Dark Horse. I have read varying reviews. Some are critical of the added .5% sherry but I find it a very good. Much more flavour than a lot of our regular Canadian "ryes".

As do I. Early stages for me as yet regarding any detailed assessment. I don't mind one single bit that there's a percentage of corn-based whisky (and, as you've noted, a minute quantity of sherry wine as well) blended in with the rye. It all seems to work. Very pleasant drinking experience so far, and certainly a more than fair bang-for-buck quality level.

OK - so that Talisker box set - done some research and I've realised, its a damn steal at around $18 (US) or ZAR200.
Going to buy the rest if no one else has caught on to this ridiculous price

Very much a good Lowland. Lots of grassy notes. More fresh on the palate and dry on the nose. If you like Lowlands, I think you might like this one.

As well as a Powers John's Lane i also picked up this Japanese interest. Image taken with an old rangefinder lens dating from 1957, purchased with some hassle from Hong Kong and with the help of an old friend who lives there (if you're reading this - thanks again Ronnie :D ), made by a company called Chiyoda Kogaku, later to be known as Minolta. Looking through one new purchase at another. Anyway, enough with the waffle.

Haven't opened it yet, will definitely post tasting notes when I do, though. Bought it on a whim, since it's usually very difficult to buy anything at that age, for less than $350 in Australia (regardless if it is an indie or official bottling).

If you like Livet 12, I believe you will enjoy the 18. It's a more subtle and complex dram.

Trader Joe's for several beer and their Bourbon.
