1700 series Directors Edition 40%
Okay trying the new one... I had lots of reasons not to like it...
- $10 more than the 12yo (which I really like)
- NAS - pretty much means there is young beverage in there
- bottled at %40 (not 43-46)
- Not exclusively sherry casks (don't really like the fine oak series)
Well..?? It is pretty fricken good...
Huge sherry notes on the nose, cooked oranges, Christmas spice, palate is more of the same with vanilla notes and wood thrown in, finish is longer than it deserves at 40%, with the citrus and spice hanging around. Overall I have to say that I really like it. I almost want to say it is a very obvious sherry Macallan, but that is what I want anyway..
So does it beat the 12yo for $10 more.. not really, but it holds it's own. 12yo-$41, DE-$50. I am not sorry I bought it, and I will be happy to drink it.
