some notes on the Mac ...

A nice lighter amber color in the glass. Taking an initial nosing, I am getting a combo of oranges and cinnamon spice along with a touch of rosin, there is a bit of vanilla and wood pulp. On first nip, the palate is slightly oily and warm, the wood influence comes to the forefront. Flower petals and salt is there reminding me in some ways of very aged (5+years) Dutch Gouda. As it goes down, the finish is medium long 3-4 minutes, with the spice and light oranges lingering around for a while. Overall a nice beverage, little more than half a bottle finished, I like it better after a year+ than when first opened. Will be interesting to try at the end of the year or so.

Now...

Giving the Royal a try… looks like a golden colored syrup in the glass. Way different than the old Mac, but the older Brackla is lovely on the nose. More citrus and lemongrass to start with, and much stronger vanilla notes and some white pepper back notes. happy so far… I like the initial taste as well, the higher proof is evident, but not overpowering. Waking up the palate with the pepper notes and oils coming present. The mouthfeel is really nice, coating the tongue and teeth with the spice and heavy citrus notes. Finishing off, the spice (light at this point) and the caramel like citrus notes stick around for well over 5-7 minutes..Once again, enjoying this more than when opened (October last year)

The ‘farclas is really dark red amber color in the glass. There is many reasons I bought so many bottles of this beverage. The candy nose is one reason, Caramel and light molasses, cooked oranges and rich roasted spices follow that. Drinking it is even more fun. The spice notes continue, with the dark citrus flavors overtaking them on the palate. This gives way to the sugar notes (more like hard candy) coming back on the finish. I really enjoy this dram - not that is it world class whisky - but for an average of $45 a bottle, it holds it own among much higher bottles.

Enjoyed the notes Mikey. On the 96 Farc, I get a bing cherry note on the palate. Cheers!
