Supermarket Deals

General chat and talk about whisky.

Postby Deactivated Member » Tue Feb 27, 2007 10:45 am

Hi Les,
I just found that this morning whilst searching through various EU tax pages on the web.
Rather than repeat everything here, take a look in Ian Buxton's "Tax" discussion here in Whisky Chat.
I added lots of info to the discussion this morning.

Sainsbury's had a few Glenfiddichs on offer. Picked up the Solera 15 for £24. My Asda's out of stock of Balvenie 10.

Not so much a supermarket deal as a wholesale deal. Earlier today had to give a friend of mine a hand getting a huge screen tv home from Costco in North London. While he was sorting out what he needed to sort out I thought I'd take a stroll around.
After walking around for five minutes, something rather beautifull caught my eye, a huge stack of Lagavulin 16yr boxes. Equally beautifull was the price of £31 inc vat. They also had Makers Mark for £13, so I thought it would be rude not to buy a bottle.

So made it to the checkout and purchased courtasy of my friends membership. Then realising on my way out that practically anyone can join up so I did. I feel another visit may be on the cards soon.

The title of this thread, "Supermarket Deals," reinforces my theory from the other thread, that Scotland must be "The cheapest country in the world to buy whisky!"

Ardbeg Ten currently £21.99 in Sainsbury's.

Popped into Tesco yesetrday to get the Glenmo 15, no Talisker 10 left but picked up one in Scotmid for £22.49 (£5 off). Tesco also has the Glenmo port finish and others if stocked for £20.99.

Scotmid (co-op) also has Laphroaig 10 at £5 off and Macallan 10 Fine Oak also at £5 off.

Next month will see bargains galore as 'Fathers Day' gift discounting approaches.

Okay... y'all ready for this.....

Asda price - £15 for both HP12 and Laph10

Hurry on down and stock up, I know I certainly did last night.

The best thing with Asda, Tesco and Sainsburys is that you can check their prices online b4hand. I tend to check these every few days and swoop when the price is right, but you do need to be quick.

The 'fathers day' bargains are hotting up

Cheers for the tip Leither! I feel a visit to Asda over the weekend may be time well spent.

Like you I like to check before hand and as others have stated before find http://www.tesco.com/pricecheck one of the best places to look.

Leither & Martin that's brilliant but when I went to my local Tesco last week they had nothing on offer. So what can you do other than keep going in there now and again.

Les, best option is to register with Tesco for home delivery - this will then tell you exactly what they stock in your nearest store.

Asda and Sainsburys aint so sophisticated - they just list available offers nationwide.

Passed through Harlow yesterday and made an unexpected pitstop in Asda. Low and behold a bottle of HP 12 and the last bottle of Laph 10 made their way into my basket.

Nice start to the weekend.

Was in Waitrose at the weekend and managed to pick up a bottle of Compass Box Peat Monster, a Dalwhinnie 15YO and a Glen Elgin 12YO, all three bottles together came to under £60 (just). All on special offer, the Glen Elgin being stickered so may be an instore reduction only.

Whisky cupboard now slightly restocked, and have already sampled the Peat Monster, which IMHO whilst peaty is about as many monstorous tones as an afternoon of Classic FM.

Oh Mark what a pain. It's like seeing your bus go down the road and the driver although he sees you won't stop.

Yip, you need to be in quick to get these offers, stock moves fast.

I literally down tools and bolt to my nearest Asda/Tesco to get them!

Never mind Mark, will be plenty more - I normally keep on the pulse of these deals (and, call me selfish, but the trick is to grab some yourself b4 posting here!).

As someone else has pointed out this thread gets many more views than replies.

I'm one of the lurkers and I'm not a threat since I'm in Canada although I do grit my teeth at some of the prices!

I picked up a Laphroaig Cask Strength for £20 in Asda yesterday. I decided not to add to the Talisker 10 and Laphroaig 10 stockpile, even at fifteen quid...

I usually am quick off the mark when i spot these offers, I am just mad with myself for missing it as my HP 12 stock had run out. Not to worry i am sure the annual Fathers Day supermarket crazy whisky prices will be here soon. I have consoled myself tonight by cracking open a bottle of HP 18 i already had.
