Yes, it's Welsh whisky actually, and it's quite sweet and smooth. Because it's a new distillery (opened 2000-ish) it's not very old, but it sure is a very nice dram and i'm sure the 10YO will be crackin' 22 quid is a good price and I dont thing you'll be dissapointed in it. The bottle sure looks nice as well, too bad it doesn't fit my cabinet :)

I would say it's hard to justify £22 for a 5 year old whiskey.

Perhaps, but it is cheap for that particular whisky, I bought it for € 43 after having tasted it at a N&T so it's relatively cheap. It is certainly worth 22 quid, trust me.

Actually, Penderyn is quite good, and you wouldn't be able to tell that it's just five years old...it also sells for about $70 over here, so 22 quid is a great price!

I happen to like the madeira finished Penderyn too. Good news is that it'll be available in Norway soon.

I believe the madeira finished one is the only finish available now.

Brilliant! Thanks for the heads up on Tesco, Richard & the price check link, Bamber... I bought myself a 12yo Caol Ila for £19.99. And there was a Suntory Yamazaki 10yo sitting next to it for £24.99, so I got that as well. I know the Yamazaki isn't a special offer, but I've wanted to try Japanese whisky for ages, and it's my first so I'm happy :)

I tried a dram of this recently. It was very good, and as Mark G said, it doesn't taste young at all. I've only seen it at £30 previously, so ...

Buy, Buy, Buy ...

This is just their normal 3yo (5yo ?). Nice bottle, young simple spirit. Not for me at all.

Not my favourite either, but you can only explore your own tastes if you try a variety of whiskies and at that price it's not to big an investment to find out.

IMO Glenlivet 12 will not offend, but might be a bit unexciting.

Another "not a supermarket" deal...'til Saturday 19 only!! Daily Mail has a voucher to get Glenfiddich 15 solera for £15.99 at "bottom's up" / "wine Rack"... Don't waste time reading the paper though...

I was a GF snob 'til I tried this one...much rounder and more depth than the 12...and I wasn't surprised to see JM rate it highly( in the 90s!) A nice dram to offer friends ( or the uninitiated?) at Christmas.

Also, Tescos...Aberlour 10 @£17;
Glenmorangie Portwood finish @£20

And then today in Asda:
Ardbeg 10 at £21.46, and Talisker 10(blue box) at around £19

Christmas is coming!!

WHEN IS A DEAL NOT A DEAL DEPT.

...also noticed at Asda - Ledaig in a crumbly old box, no age statement, for 8 quid and a few pence. Something told me to steer clear...

Yes, good idea! I cannot recommend it to anyone - not even to the evil midget donkey.

Yes there's some odd cheapo single malts appearing in supermarkets these days. I cant help thinking at the price you'd be better off with a blended.

Tesco and Oddbins are both doing the Balvenie 10 and 12 at 18 and 22 respectively.

Also both have many others on great offers that I can't quite remember. Except Highland Park is Malt of the Month at the CoOp at the moment at 20.

Oddbins are definitely worth a look.

Hi Les, it is the Sainsbury's in Kempston, right in the middle of the town with an underground car park.

This thread forced me into Asda today :(

Talisker 10 at £20
Laphroiag CS at £25
Glenlivet 18 at £27
HP 12 at £20
Macallan FO 10 at £20
Ardbeg 10 at £22

All prices rounded to the nearest quid so I don't appear too sad :)

Bought a Talisker, a couple of Laphroiag CS and a Glenlivet 18. I suppose I'll go back to stock up on a couple after looking round at the other local offerings.

Has anyone seen the vile box they've put the Glenlivet 12 in now? All it needs is a bit of Burberry check.....

Yeah, it looks seriously old-fashioned, in a bad way. Like an old man's whisky.

I need to get a Talisker and an Old Pulteney soon.
