I met Mikeymad at the St. George Distillery in January, and I met Randall Fairbrooks in February shopping at Beltramos.

I haven't met anyone from the forum yet. But I hope to at this years
SMWS 15th Annual Single Malt & Scotch Whisky Extravaganza, in Boston.
It's supposed to be in October, but the date hasn't been announced yet.

Well let's see, I've met S'tan D'mon and SKU who live in the greater LA area. I may have met others who have joined but didn't realize they were members here. Also, MikeyMad and I have been friends for many, many years. It's kind of like that old pair of comfortable shoes that no matter what you go through, they'll never be thrown away.

I've met woodhill a few times over the phone when he called recently for us to discuss the bottling of a cask. Nice to chat, hope to meet one day in person for some good whisky.

I unfortunatly have met no one so far but wish i had the pleasure of actually enjoying a glass of whiskey with someone who appreciates some whiskey on the rocks.

J one day it will happen. This time last year I hadn't met anyone. It must be pushing double figures now. And It's been a delight to meet up with everyone.

Up until last week I would have thought the same.

Yet speaking to Compass Box at WL they sort of turned my head a little, and lead me to understand that the "no ice", "no mixers" rule is in fact just snobbery.

Rather than thinking "why ruin a great whisky with ice", instead think "if you want a cold refreshing drink, why should it not have a whisky you enjoy as a major component".

Sure I won't be adding ice to my favourite malts any time soon, but if I want a long cool summer drink, I'll consider reaching for the malt bottle instead of a Gin one!

I might even try a Talisker Sour!

I've done my experimenting with ice and water. Ran the same whisky heads up: straight, water and ice. Adding water changed the experience but really wasn't a negative (exceptions to some here) but adding ice closed up the whisky and brought in an astringency. Once the ice had fully melted, it was just as if I had added water - funny how that works.

As for adding other stuff, why waste a high quality single malt when you can use a blend or an inexpensive single malt (especially one that you have had a hard time enjoying)?

I had a real treat on Friday, I got to chat on the 'phone with Mr Fjeld, who is as much a gentleman "in person" as he is on the Forums. At some point I'd like to touch base with Jonathan as well, maybe after Portugal.

It was a good dramming last night with them as well, we'll have to do that again. Thanks again Gordon, who unlike Harry, is a normal sized guy.

I "met" Randall last night on the SOI chatroom. I had a very nice chat with you about everything from whisky to taxes to different ways of exiting the British Empire. Guns or ballots. (We used the BNA, which was nearly as bloody as the method our southern cousins applied.)

Pleased to hear you met up with Mikey, he's someone I do have to look up someday.
