The Algarve, Albufeira. We're also doing an overnight to Malta, which appeals to me for it's historical signifigance. I doubt that we'll find much Whisky to bring home, as it's a direct flight to Faro from Toronto and the same coming back.
Pete 3 things I would reccemend that you do. Hopefully you'll have a hire car.
1. A drive up the Monchique moutain. the views are fantastic looking all along the coast. There are several restaurants up there as well with terrace views, a real nice place to stop for lunch.
2. A visit to Portimao. Its a real old fishing port. With harbourside restaurants where again its good to stop for lunch and have the bbq fresh fish and sardines that have been caught that day. It has a real old town as well good for shopping and walking around looking at the old buildings and walkways.
3. Agar Secco. It has a cliff top restaurant with views out to sea so its nice to get there before it gets dark and then they turn the floodlights on and light up the sand stone cliffs all around you. We have stayed several times in Cairveiro which is close to Agar Secco.
Hope you enjoy your stay there. And you must try the white Port, it's actually good with Portugese brandy. They have liquor stores in the towns you might find some thing interesting there.
