Sorry to disapoint you MP but my ancestral home is much much more modest than that. But as a local resident I do get free entry whenever I wish.

Took this at the same time as the one above (to much time on my hands), It's more like the 'standard' view of the castle seen on postcards etc.

Right! I'm fed up with winter now. I need cheering up, so I thought I would post this nice late summer shot taken at Mortlach.

The best (only) whisky bar in Fun City Pattaya Thailand.
Over 60 whiskies (18 malts). Hard to find single malts in Thailand but they are slowly arriving as the Thais develop a taste for more than 'Black', 'Blue' and Chivas.
Drop in if you're in the region. Fine drams with fine company.

Nice picture Willie!! I tried to visit the Mortlach distillery while I was staying in Dufftown for several days in '04 but they were down at the time and not doing tours.

Sunny days seem hard to come by, at least when I'm there. Here's a shot of the Clynelish distillery taken in August of '02

They don't really do tours outside of the festivals Wave. Very frustrating for those of us that love the dram.

That's the old Clynelish though isn't it? The one that became Brora. The current Clynelish buildings are much less attractive.

It's a shame that there's no real tours at Mortlach, that's one distillery I would love to roam the warehouses of!! Unfortunately at that time I had just missed the Speyside festival by like a week or so, but I was more interested in the Feis Ila that I did make.

The one above is a side shot, here's the front side. With everything else much older and rustic in the area it sorta sticks out like a sore thumb.

Nice pictures Willie and Wave. I hope to tour Scotland one day too and when seing your pictures I hope it's going to be sooner rather than later.

Agreed. It's an excellent dram and a wonderful place (Brora that is), whatever the buildings are like.

This is the view out my front door. That white stuff is the snow that your daughter wishes I would send over. By the by, the marks in the snow on the hill are the trails that the herd of deer have left as they browse on the cedar trees. Them aren't people tracks, we use the road in front. As do the snowmobiles.

I know what you're saying Musky, but the real problem here is the perpetual dampness and lack of light, even when the sun is up. Snow gives us a bit of relief because it lifts the light levels dramatically whether it is overcast or not (and it usually is) and it usually means less damp, until it starts to melt.

You guys just have different issues with the weather I think.

Thanks for the snow we did get by the way. She really appreciated it .

I should have took a walk up the Ben while I was there (in 2000). But, you know, there was beverages to drink and the distileries are only open in the day (what is up with that?).

Just returned from a walk on Lake of the Woods. Yes, on the lake. You can see the snowmobile trails running off towards the West and just on the left corner of the photo is the ice road that runs down the lake for over 20 miles.

This is the said ice road with a fair amount of vehicular traffic. I walked the dog, Dazy, around to an nearby Island, Coney Island and then along this trail,

to the footbridge which returns us to the mainland.

And yes, that is open water under the footbridge. There is an exceptionally strong current coming through this narrows. If you fell in, they'd never find your body until the spring melt.
I get to live here all year 'round.
