Hi Christian ... that is an excellent photo of the moon as I know how hard it is to take those. Did you use remote or timer on a tripod as there is little to no blur. I'd be interested to know what sort of shutter speed you used or was it an auto night selection or some think. Any way not matter how you did it is looks good.

Thanks Adrian, I more or less use manual only as I don't like to use programs - but I don't remember what shutter speed I used. For support I used a climbing device on a playground. I only took a few pictures as I didn't want to hang around there for very long. It looks a bit suspicious for old men with cameras to hang out at the local playground.........

I took Dazy out for an afternoon walk on the ice road to Coney Island and returned via the footbridge across the narrows.

This is the view looking South from the floating footbridge:

Helps to explain why we would choose to live in a somewhat inhospitable, whisky poor climate!

The start of the walk, down the ice road towards Coney Island.

We pass this imposing cottage as we reach Coney island.

As we stroll along the roads of Coney island, a small clearing opens up to our right. The trees heavily laden with snow.

We turn to return to town and get a view of the city centre. The houseboats are anchored in shallows and stay frozen in all winter.

Walk to Coney Island (Part 2). Up the road, we turn off onto a path and spot two deer prancing across the trail. Regretfully I wasn't quick enough with the camera and missed the shot.

The deer were at the top of this ridge on the trail to the right.

There is another herd of deer just off the trail!

Looking downstream towards the city centre, the large tower on the right is the Best Western hotel, which is built right over the lake.

Johann, you are close - but look closer at the grouping on the left. Christian, you are the closest so far.
I had to lie in the snow to get the shot, with Dazy staring at me rather quizically. The deer were giving me the same weird look.

It was a beautiful day in a gorgeous setting. It is indeed a privilege to be able to live in this part of the world. Winter is beautiful but summers are spectacular. I had hoped to get a shot of a Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) to post but all that's around right now are Ravens (Corvus corax).

I suspect the Eagles are generally seen south around Sioux Narrows or further west, for the most part, where the hunting is better. (Road kill on the Trans Canada Highway)

I was walking home to my overnight flat thursday night and saw the ambulance on the corner of my street. When I turned the corner I was amazed at finding no less than seven police vehicles on the street, SWAT-team and all. Turned out a young man was shot one storey down from where I crash. I watched it all from just three or four meters away. I must say I was surprised that no-one told me to back off, at least when they started cocking their guns before making entry.

Haha Mr.F! I doubt the coppers would've shot me as when coming to the scene the first thing I did was walking straight up to the entrance and ask if I could walk in. The copper by the door kindly (and surprisingly without a hint of sarcasm) told me, "Not right now. Do you live here?" Same copper later asked me twice to open the front door with my key. Later there where three other tennants that walked almost to the door and I told them to stay outside as there were copper inside in full SWAT gear and shots (later it turned out it was only one, probably a neglient discharge) had been fired. The nearest cop was on the other side of the street and didn't seemed to notice them. If those people had gotten in they would not have been shot, but there would've been a bigger risk for them than for me.

Åmål, looks just like home! Right down to the amount of snow in the front yard and on the roof! It could be right down the raod, except for the bicycle. Over here it would be a snow machine.

Musky: The in-laws says that they've seen worse in Åmål, but I take comfort in telling them we have as much snow as the North Pole (thank you soooo much for that one Jan! ). And it must be true 'cause Canadians can't lie.
And for the record, there are no snow mobiles available this far south (the army have been forced to use its tracked vehicles to get supplies to a lot of people - first time since '95), but I believe ATV sales are through the roof.

I've been out walking again yesterday. Trying to lose some weight. Took this picture from Lyngbønipen where I live. Later today we'll climb Lyderhorn and I hope to take some more pictures.

My better half and I climbed Lyderhorn mountain earlier today. The weather was perfect. Lyderhorn is 396/1299 ft meter above sea level which may not seem as much - untill you start climbing.....

Have you seen "the Tornado" yet? I have followed it's development over the past few years and was quite excited to actually see footage on "Youtube" of it steaming this year. I remember seeing it in photos as a mockup with a few real parts in place during development in the model railway press.

I am sorry for your loss as well MrF. My boy still lives with me in his box(cremated) in the home office next to his collage of photo's. It's only now after 6 years that I am ready(he died before Mrs DT came along)
for another 'child'.

One of the following will be coming to there new home in 6-7 weeks time
Mrs DT was not allowed a dog when growing up and we are both very excited!

Christian: As you know, I was very upset to hear of Oscar's passing, as mentioned in my e-mail a while back.

The rest of the forum may not realise how pivotal Oscar was to our involvement in these Forums. After Oscar was injured a number of years ago, Christian and I began to PM back and forth about Oscar and what to do. We discovered that we both have a love for dogs and whisky and hit it off very well. This led to our co-authoring the first live tasting on the Forums and ongoing interactions outside the Forums.

The loss of Oscar was very saddening to both myself and Mrs Musky. I had hoped to travel to Norway one day to see Oscar in person and am the poorer for never having the opportunity. Oscar will be sorely missed on this side of the Atlantic as well. Rest in peace, little fellow.
