I'm sorry to hear about Oscar passing away, Mr.F.

Oscar is also the name of what the cat, oh I mean the cat Mrs. Chef, dragged home. He'll be celebrating his first b-day in two weeks:

I was up this morning having a cuppa coffee, nursing a wee headache from last night, when these creatures wandered through my yard:

Morning deer2.jpg
Early morning deer grazing in the next yard

Then, they wandered across to the other yard and settled down to ruminate and browse a bit more:

Morning deer3.jpg
Resting from their exertions

They appeared to have settled in for the morning until the neighbours' dog was let out and began barking. They then wandered off to look for another resting place.

As they were does with half grown fawns, I assume it was their Mothers' Day outing.

Musky, those pic's are so cool. I remember seing a docu' from Canada where game came right up to the houses in built-up areas, it seems like it was shot in your back yard. I'm guessing you can't shoot them (not the babies of course) in your back yard 'cause you are not allowed to discharge a firearm in a built-up area. Or you love them for their beauty, so you would not think of harming them.

Sorry for the lenghty post, I just re-watched Deer Hunter last week.

Chef:
No we aren't allowed to shoot them in city limits, especially since the Game Warden office is three doors away! I don't mind them around other than they should be in the wild, not in an urban setting. Predators will follow them into the area in due time.

Since they love to munch on flowers and veggies fresh from the garden, Mrs Musky is a bit less enthused to see them I can assure you. She's had to resort to planting flowers in hanging baskets that hopefully the deer cannot reach. I'll post pics of the baskets later today.

Mrs Musky has planted some flowers that hopefully the deer won't be able to munch on:
HPIM1624flower baskets.jpg

The view from further back showing how far off the ground the baskets hang. If it's high enough to dissuade the deer remains to be seen, I've seen them stand on their hind legs to reach more succulent browse.

The hangers just clamp on the railings and come off in the fall, not leaving any marks. A brilliant concept.

A recent walk through the bluebells at Ashridge. I was thinking to myself at the time what whisky would go well at this time. Probably something from the Flora & Fauna range.

Thank you Adrian. Sorry, I didn't see your post before now. We certainly miss him a lot. However, it looks like we are going to be blessed with a Welsh Terrier puppy in late July :) He's from the same breeder and the same line of dogs so we are very excited. Pictures will follow - maybe with a glass of Penderyn in hand!

Christian:

He is absolutely adorable! I've run downstairs and returned with a dram of Penderyn, in my Whisky Live Glencairn glass, to toast the newest member of your tribe! Cheers Floyd!

I had thought I was going to open a sealed bottle but the elves have been active in the Lair and my Welsh whisky has been broached! Still a fine dram, with a spirited spicy finish that dances on the tongue. I've printed off a copy to show Mrs Musky as well.

Nice Ardbeg Devil Doc

It was grey and foggy yesterday and not much to see let alone take a picture of. However, an incredibly large cruise ship arrived and I took a picture of it on the mobile while standing just outside the Coastal Seafaring Museum. Three very different eras of past, present and ancient nautical life.

Well, we don't exactly have Lochs here in Australia, but there are plenty of nice bodies of water - I can just imagine a nice distillery on the banks of this bay in Sydney (not that'd I'd drink anything that came out of it).

A danish whiskyagent (Dansk Malt Whisky Akademi, DMWA) sells wornout (used) casks,

250 liters are 650 Dkr (approx 77£)
500 liters are 750 Dkr (approx 88£)

It's on their website here http://shop.dmwa.dk/group.php?id=150

The nice ones sells fast, I think none of the pictured 250 liter ones were available

bad news is that you have to drop by his place and pick them up yourself!

The 500 liters are too big to get throu doors (they are approx 90cm)

The 250 liters was enough work to get up on 1st floor and just fitted thru my doors

I got no clue how to get one in Sweden. Here in Denmark it's a lot more common to see wine casks occasionally, but who would want one of those :-)
