Introducing myself

I am new member from Charlotte, North Carolina, in the good ol’ south of the USA. Originally from Los Angles, I have been all over the place. One of my stops, gratefully, was Omaha, Nebraska, home of the famous Dundee Dell. With over 400 malts and monthly tastings, I was able to learn a bit.

So, now I am officially obsessed with single malts, and have tasted about 150 in the last few years. For fun, here is my top ten list.

95 Ardbeg Provenance 1974 (55.8%, OB)
95 Port Ellen 16yo Dist. 1980, Cask 89/5891/20 (59.3%,Signatory)
94 Laphroaig 30yo (43%, OB, circa 2000)
93 Glenfarclas 21yo Square Bottle (55.5%, OB)
93 Brora 21yo 1981 (46%, Signatory, The Un-Chillfiltered Collection, Cask 1586, Bottle 594)
93 Lagavulin 16yo (43%, OB, 2004)
92 Clynelish 29yo 1972 (56.3%, Cadenhead)
92 Lagavulin 12yo (43%, OB, 80s, 50ml)
92 Highland Park 34yo 1971 Single Cask (53%, OB, Binny's Select )
92 Port Ellen 13yo 1982 (43%, Hart Brothers)

I look forward to getting to know people here, learning from you all, and would eventually love to meet some trading partners here in the US, or even find a few local malt lovers (I have been here a year in NC). I have a few people that I trade with, a wonderful way of maximizing precious resources. A bit more about me, for info, I am a professor of social work, 40yo, wife and kids, and love to travel in Latin America. To date, no travel to the Scotland, let’s hope soon.

Unfortunately i'm not in your neck of the woods so tradings not an option but i look forward to your input on the forum .

Thanks or the welcome Gordon. The "top dog" I tried two weeks ago at the Dell (had to be back in Nebraska for a few).The most amazing depth and power, complex yet so intense. I must have spent twenty minutes on the nose before I tasted. A malt that had everything, and then more, and more and more.

It's funny how Provenance does that to you !
Mind you it does happens a lot to me with Ardbegs ......especially sitting in The Old Kiln Cafe or on the pier .....

Just a bit. I guess muy list does give the impression that I am a peat freak. I would add that each of the malt's on my list can be charicterized by balance as well (thus why I would score the best of the older Ardbegs and the Laproaig 30 so much higher than the younger malts of those two distilleries. The Brora and Clynleish that are on my list are actually not very peaty (well, the Clynleish was a bit, being that it was form the peaty era) but wine high marks for being wonderfully balanced and complex malts that seem to change with each sip.

Thanks for the warm welcome; I think I like this board already.
