In some ways I'm kinda hoping for this instead, the 10 is still available at the WA Liquor Stores (carried in the Blaine location actually) and I've got a small stockpile anyways.....

it's the 10......
unsure if the QC will come or not(to regular stores), there are still some cases of it, whether it gets replenished, I'm not sure atm.
but having the 10 back is good news indeed

I hope you are right about the 10 yo returning in August.

When I inquired with the liquor store folks, the reply was that "Our Portfolio Manager for Spirits and Liqueurs has informed us that the worldwide supply of Laphroaig 10 Year Old Islay is currently at a low level, and the manufacturer has cancelled all shipments to British Columbia. " Taken directly from their email reply to my inquiry.

I emailed the folks at Laphroaig but haven't heard back yet. Anyone know....Truth or Fiction????

They did tell me they were bringing in the Laphroaig Quater Cask this fall....of course it will be in a higher price range.

What is being missed in all this is that Laphroaig has changed ownership recently and I suspect that there is a lag time between the new owners supplying for Canada and the old owners and their agent ceasing to do so. I don't believe the shortage story for a second, after all Laphroaig was going full tilt 10 years ago..........

At one point, at least in Ontario, the rumour was that the 10 yo supply would be discontinued and replaced by the QC. As I favour the QC over the 10 yo, I would welcome a shipment. In saying that, it is good to know that there is plenty of Laphroaig, but whether it hits our (LCBO) shelves is always a different matter.

That's the lay that Corby was giving to many of it's clients, the BCLCB included. However others heard that supplies were low w/ no QC replacement and still others heard it was merely a "business decision". Seems that no one who knows the real story is either allowed to speak (either officially or at all). Lawerence's theory sounds pretty probably to me as Corby is owned by Diageo and since they no longer own Laphroaig they'll not be the importer for it anymore. It takes time for a new importer to work a deal with the various liquor boards (I imagine being owned by Jim Beam made it a smoother process for the US through)

I saw the invoice, I know it's coming but I don't know about the QC. It would be nice but since I have a good supply of it, I'm not worried

anyway, it is good news, Laphroaig is such a distinct malt and many love it, it would be evil not to be able to buy such a good malt & the price is quite good indded.....

Actually the one I get a kick out of is that there are still retailers saying that the 10 was discontinued to make room for the 12 and 16.... yet still have never heard of the QuarterCask (I got that line today from a private store at ParkRoyal).

The LCBO has discontinued Laphroaig 10. If you don't believe it, go on their website and see it for yourself.

Sounds like there will be a lot of folks in BC waiting with bated breath for the return of the 10 yo, or the QC.

My hubby and I will be heading to Alberta this summer - anyone know a good whisky shop in Calgary? I will do a separate posting in case out Alberta friends don't read this conversation. We'll be buying a few 10 yo.....just in case - besides - they are soooooooooooo much cheaper in Alberta!!!

Willow Park and the Kensington Wine Market are apparently the places to shop in Calgary. KWM is the pricer of the 2 from what I understand (I've only been to KWM and not WP myself)

Hi Wendy, here in BC the LQC is being listed on the stock sheets so I expect it will be arrving in due course. I find it hard it hard to believe that they're abandoning the the L10 but that seems to be what's happening!

There's also always the WA state liquor stores across the border. Of course the duty applied after the first bottle, assuming you're across the border for longer than 48 hrs, maybe rather punitive.

We just picked up a bottle in Alberta for $53.49 ($79.99 in BC). Its very good. Much smoother than the 10 yo....but I sure miss that 10 yo mediciney, iodiney kick!

Canada the first market in the world where we only sell Laphroaig QC.

rather than face a future of declining availability as allocations are

For some time now, a number of you have been writing to us and asking about Laphroaig in Canada; therefore, I thought I should let you know the latest news. Unfortunately due to supply we have had to withdraw Laphroaig 10 year old from Canada - we simply do not have enough. Just select markets though it seems to be most or all of Canada if not North America. Just not enough mature 10yo to go around so they're breaking into their 5-8yo stocks early (they'd meant it to sleep for at least 10 years originally).

Hello all, my first post here.

I'm writing from Nova Scotia and can confirm that Laph 10 has been withdrawn from the market nationwide. Word has it that Asian markets are willing to pay more and all stocks formerly designated for Canada are going there.

In Nova Scotia we currently have no Laph of any style whatsoever left to buy. I was in New Brunswick today and stopped into one of their stores. They too have no 10 y.o. left but I decided to pick up a bottle of the 15 that they still had in stock. I'm enjoying a taste of it now. Lovely stuff, but rather different from the 10.

Laph is represented by Corby's in Canada as I understand it. To correct a previous posting, Coby's is not owned by Diageo. They are affiliated with Pernod Ricard.

Been a good (albeit expensive) week for me and my scotch supply. I found some Lagavulin 16 on clearance locally and picked up a couple of bottles for 30% off the usual $89 shelf price. I think I now have a long-term supply when added to what I already had on the shelf.

Welcome to the Forums, you sound like someone who knows what he's talking about, so should be a real asset to the group.

I had opined in a WM article (the only one I was ever in - issue 64) that a lot of whisky would be earmarked for the expanding Asian market: "...and redirected to the new Chinese markets that are opening up...I can see that prices will rise for the foreseeable future and in time will develop into a delivery to the highest bidder to the detriment of the average drinker like myself."

Sad to see that my crystal ball was working, perhaps too well! My worst concerns have been confirmed by your first posting!

What a coincidence, I thought I'd try the Port of Wines today to see if their listings were any different than the regular NSLC and she told me the same thing: the Japanese market has it all accounted for. She did mention that Ontario has some, and as luck would have it a friend of mine is in Ottawa this week. Crossing my fingers that he gets my e-mail.....

Funny. I live in Sackville, NB and was wondering the same thing. I wasn't aware of any of this "shortage" business until well after my brother-in-law from the UK had brought a couple bottles at Christmas.

Laphroaig 10yo is now -by far- my favourite Scotch, although I haven't yet tried the QC. I still had a bottle left when I noticed there was some in the Sackville store (probably back in January) and thought I'd be OK to pick some up later. Oh, how I regret that decision.

My love for Laphroaig was recently rekindled on a trip to California, where a hotel bar was serving the 10yo.

Count me in on the case to Nova Scotia if you can swing it. (But I thought I saw on the Laphroaig site that they don't ship to Canada.)
