Ardbeg Renaissance, at 55.9% ABV

Maybe this belongs in the news section but nevertheless, this is good news

Finally, after the limited releases of Very Young, Still Young, Almost There, and the other whiskies leading up to a 10 year old Ardbeg distilled-and bottled-by the current owners, our wait is over.

Ardbeg will be releasing, in equally limited quantities, a 10 year old (definitely there!) cask strength Ardbeg in the very near future, which they're calling Renaissance.

I'm sure it will come to Norway, would be surprised if it didn't since they brought in the previous, along with some other special Ardbegs recently.

Hmm hopefully it'll be priced the same as Still Young & Almost There!!! Because £30 for a cask strength Ardbeg is fantastic value.

Somehow with the 10 year old being £28 RRP I doubt it...

I wonder when the new regular 10 year old is coming?? Do you think they'll change the packaging or will it remain the same?

Okay, so official release for the Feis Ile 2008.

It would be nice of them if they did release this one like the others previous, and then have a standard 10y bottling also. I'd think they'd spruce up the packaging a bit, make it new, not that there is anything wrong with the old, but since it's "new" whisky, they'll probably want to show that off. Guess we'll have to wait and see....

I know somewhere that has the ten for £22, they've bought loads in due to them forseeing stocks flying out, no wonder at that price, however i didn't get any, maybe i should have - never mind.

Rob I think you should have a couple of bottles of the old Ten stashed away. If nothing else to make a comparison with the new. When the stock of the old ten is gone that will be it. Actually I think it's still in tesco for just under £20.

I got the "almost there" at the Park Avenue Liquor Store in NYC for $110... a bit pricy compared to cost across the pond, but not bad compared to eBay....

Sainsburys in Calais about 6 Months ago. I noticed the price offer on their website before I went and reserved a box. Lucky I did becuase when I got there there was none in the shop besides for my reservation.

I believe also that Tesco in Calais, again you can check online, has some deals but they used to be much, much better.

Talking of booze cruises I often see Scandinavian cruise ships berthing here for a few days on a similar whisky raid! Can't blame them.

Meanwhile I am stocking up on the current Ardbeg Ten (cheers Tesco ) as the new release will be a new price, of that I have no doubt.

Maybe we shoudl form our own forum shop, if we could buy in such bulk imagine the money we'd save, could get commission too - or not.

I can't remember where I heard it but some time ago someone from Glenmorangie Plc said there would be no shortage on the old Ten. That was before the LVMH group bought Glenmorangie so one can only speculate about their plans? Maybe they'll age the stocks further instead? Anyway, there is so much Ten around that it should be plenty for everyone for a long time - albeit not at the prices mentioned above perhaps.

Also, the Renaissance would strictly speaking only be comparable with the Ardbeg Mhor since they're both cask strength, right? So when will the new Ten at 46% be available?

I don't know when the new Ten will be out. But going backwards on the the releases of almost there, still silly and very silly. I reckon it has to be in the spring.

I was very disappointed with the still silly and very silly eventhough the Nearly there was not bad.... not overly fussed about Ardbeg in the first place so I'm not going to get too excited about the new releases

I have to agree with that. They could have gone for another name. At least something which fits with the line of the previous ones as Gordon mentions. I'm really looking forward to it though as I absolutely loved the Very Young and Almost There - the latter one which is fantastic!

I really enjoyed "almost there" too. Have a bottle Still Unopened... i must say, Ardbeg new releases get my attention probably more than any other distillery, and they don't disappoint! (unlike Macallans' FO series) Uigeadal was another eagerly awaited triumph when it first appeared.

"Renaissance" ain't a bad name, except that the Ardbeg "Renaissance" was already some years ago...

They should call it something like "Ardbeg Aboot Bloody Time!" or "Ardbeg In Yer Face!"

It'll be interesting to see the price and availability of this - any word yet on a worldwide release or will it be limited to their website?

I hope it is not the latter, I don't imagine it'll be a pretty price, that's for sure. In any case, I look forward to doing the VY > SY > AT > RA flight.
