Over the last few days we have had over FIFTY new members join us. Out of those only 10 are no longer "Silent Still" Members. which means 40 people have joined and said nothing.(I know, I'm an anorak - I wouldn't be on here if I wasn't)

Nevertheless, I'll introduce myself. I'm from Reading, England. I'm 41, married, children, dog, etc. My favourite whiskies are Lagavulin, Bowmore and Aberlour. Glad to be here.

My name is Thomas Maufer. I am relatively new to Scotch (since probably about 4 years ago), having developed a taste for other distilled spirits earlier in my life: Bourbon, Rye, Tequila, Cognac, Armagnac, Gin (I don't care for Vodka...). I have been soaking up information about Scotch as I have worked my way through different regions.

I really have benefited from the WhiskyCast podcast. I might be weird: I find it very interesting to learn about the business side of Scotch as much as the nosing/tasting side. What I really like about Scotch is that I have cultivated a group of friends and we share whisky with each other every so often, so I get exposed to a wider range of whiskies faster than I could do in isolation.

My background is in high technology and marketing, and I have written three books for Prentice Hall on computer networking (still for sale on amazon.com). In that spirit (pun intended) I enjoy sharing information with others. I decided at the end of August to start writing a blog to share what I know about whisky. In that short time I have had nearly 1000 visitors! No one is more surprised by that than I am. I am not pretending to be the world's whisky expert and I am willing to be corrected. I just like to share what I know. I try not to be pedantic and stick to what I understand the facts to be on various subjects.

I'll be at WhiskyFest San Francisco in a couple weeks from tomorrow and would love to meet people there. I'll be on-site for early admission with my VIP ticket!

Been drinking whisky for about 5 years (not concurrently of course), been a member of the SMWS for 14 months. I've just got back from Edinburgh, where I spent far too much on malt.

I like Highland Park 12, Cragganmore 12 and a bottling of Glenmorangie from the SMWS that unfortunately spilt with half of it to go.

I dislike Tobermory. I'd rather drink Great Uncle Bulgaria.

I'm not really 'new' here, but I haven't introduced myself yet, so here goes:

I'm 28, have been drinking Scotch for over ten years, but have only really gotten into single malts about 5 years ago (especially Islay, though lately I have been enjoying some great Highland malts). Besides drinking whisky I also play drums in a punk and a death-metal band.

Ok, here goes. After silently watching this forum & reading the various exchanges between everyone for over 6 months (it does seem to get a bit heated at times !!), I'm ready to take the plunge.

I collect, I drink, I like to help out fellow whisky enthusiasts (nb. my wifes terminology for people like me is sad), to find that bottle to drink or add to their collection. A certain fairly active subscriber to this site knows that I am currently in a position whereby bottles are not allowed to be added to my shelves (thank goodness for the whisky fairy, bottles just sometimes appear albeit hidden at first).

I'm a bit of an Islay addict, I know kind of boring but having visited & holidayed every year for the past 8 years, sometimes 3 times in a year, it seems to get in your blood. The main stay of my collection is Bruichladdich but Ardbeg is also well represented as well as many others (on & off the island). My current dram of choice is a Signatory Laphroaig 1990 (17 yr old) cask strength. I've a few barrels at Bruichladdich as well which get regularly sampled with the first one probably only a year or two away from bottling.

What else ? - one daughter, 11 goldfish (which happily swim in Lagavulin tub), a very slow tortoise and a job which I really enjoy despite working too many hours. I'm South Yorkshire based but travel regularly around the UK.

I look forward to contributing on many topics which now I have made this first input, will be that little bit easier to make.

Nice to see someone else who has let Islay get well and truly under the skin ! Surprised we haven't crossed paths at least once on Gods own little Isle .
We usually get over 3 times a year tho this year it's only been twice but i'm sure we'll get the averages back up next year !

I'm from Fife, Scotland, and have been a fan of malt whiskey for a fair few years. I started out drinking Islay malts - Laphroig and Lagavulin - and although I can turn my pallet to anything I tend to go back to my first love.

I've quite a few keepers up my garrett, but don't yet consider myself a collector - I just buy whisky faster than I drink it.
TBH - I'm not much of a poster, but I'll certainly be here nosing around on a regular basis.

HI Everybody, i posted in the whisky live topic first before noticing this one.

I have been drinking Single Malt for about 10 years, started with Highland but now really enjoying Islay Malts.

I live in West Lothian but orginally from Glasgow, wife from Shetland,
