Fellow whisky lovers, I come here for inspiration on fine whiskies to slake my palate! Got into whiskies via a good friend a few years ago, who gave me a mini regional whisky tour, trying different bottles from his collection.

I find myself drawn to Islay whiskies so far, much as in lapsang tea, the smokiness of this region is what I love.

Dram's I've tried and enjoyed include Laprohaig 10 and QC, though find the 2010 Cairdeas too sweet for my liking, also Lagavulin, Talisker, Bruichladdich Rocks, Waves and Peat.

Bought a bottle of Bowmore recently, but it's lacking the smokiness I'm looking for. Want to build up a nice collection focusing on this smokiness\iodine flavourings, and this seemed a perfect place to ask for thoughts!

Got a nice specialist wine and whisky outlet not too far away, where the staff are friendly, and they have a great selection, which I've used a bit, though I've been keeping my eyes out for supermarket specials lately and have done well with £30 bottles frequently knocked down to £20!

Since then I have come to enjoy and appreciate scotch for its uniqueness, complexity, and elegance. Hi I'm Pengwyn, been drinking single malts for 14 years now. Started by visiting the Cragganmore Distillery and loved it from day 1. Currently have 2 bottles a Balvenie Doublewood 12yo and a Lagavulin 16 yo. The Lags already open and the Balvenie will be open tomorrow. My favourite whisky is Port Wood ones I've tried the Glenmorangie Port wood finish from years ago just about to purchase a Quinta ruban one and maybe get the Edradour one thats matured totally in Port Butts to see what thats like.

Hey everyone,

Just thought de-lurk. I've recently gotten into whisky - maybe a three year thing for me now? Had the obvious overconsumption in college and the underdeveloped palate at my first encounter with some scotch (I want to say Glenlivet 12, about 10 years ago) which left me uninterested.

Fast forward to a wild hair and a try of Macallan 12. Everything changed, and the palate was most assuredly ready. Tried the 18 next, completely floored. Dabbled here and there since, but now am starting to cast a wider net.

Mac 12 is my bread and butter and reference but I've also REALLY enjoyed a handful of Balvenie expressions that I've tried, as well as Bruichladdich Golder Still. Off the single malt side of things, I was tipped off to Noah's Mill and am really loving it.

Enjoying exploring the LA area shops for new things to try. Also now enjoying finding out who in the industry is hip to it (which is a smaller number than I expected). Finding the LA Whiskey Society's page has only made things worse for my wallet, as have some of the christmas gifts (David Wishart's book which I'm finding useful in tracking down things like I've had before, as well as things new and different).

- 20/20 in West LA (though, $$)
- K&L Hollywood (again, $$ but not bad)

But 2 years ago I took a Glenlivet 12 and became a Malt fan.
Here goes a list of some of what I've drank:
Glenfiddich 12, Glenlivet 12, 15 (French Oak), 16 Nadurra, 18, Laphroaig 10, Talisker 10, HP 18, Ardbeg Uigeadail, Auchentoshan 21, Aberlour 10, Glenmorangie Nectar Dor, Dalwhinnie 15...
The problem is that there ir no such variety here, and those online shop stores dont ship to Brasil!
