Welcome Duane. There have been several threads where people have discussed collecting whisky. I start with a search for these threads.

Hello to all... (again)

Is this a new member account? Yes. Am I a new user? No.

Something has happened and apparently I have been branded a major spammer and *all* my posts have been deleted. So yes, I am a bit frustrated for not reaching double gold status. So, I hope I do not oxidise again into thin air, and hope I can reproduce most of my posts again if needed.

(maybe if someone here could inform me on what has happened...)

Welcome back. Not sure how long you've been gone but Matt did some major purging of the forums last summer. Basically wiped out the bar. We've also had a recent spate of spamming and you may have got caught up in the lust to purge.

It looks like the deletion happened one or two weeks ago. I suspect the disappearance of the topic "Thanks" is related to it.

Aye, that thread got deleted. Evidently there was a bit of a maelstrom that day. I didn't see a thing. Came back to an overly placid forum.

Hello everyone I am looking forward to learning a lot about whisky from you all. I am a bit of an Islay peat freek and have visited the island twice now. I am branching out though. My wife is from Glasgow so I also have been to Auchentoshan and Glengoyne and I am hoping to try more Japanese whiskies after recently buying a Hakushu heavily peated. My favourite whiskies at the moment are Ardbeg Uigadail and Supernova 2010 and Bowmore 21. Anyway just introducing myself, so cheers all.

Cheers IronDawg. Always good to have new opinions on whiskies. Hopefully we'll be able to help you a little in your journey. Dramtastic is the man when you have questions on Japanese whiskies.

Cheers folks. Which is the best forum to go for discussions of peoples opinions on whiskies and distilleries? I don't want to post on the wrong one. Thanks.

I wouldn't say that there is a best. It is more of finding one in which you fit in with the other folks contributing to the forum. Since you have West Ham in your icon, I will assume that you are from the UK and that scotch/irish whiskies are more your thing.

Whisky Chat or Questions & Answers. Though if it is about how the whisky tastes youc could also post it in the Whisky Tasting portion.

Hi Ganga, yeah I'm a scottish whisky drinker primarily and Islay in particular. Ardbeg Uigadail is my current favourite though I am a real fan of Bowmore 21. What about you? I shall be drinking a lot more of it soon once the Hammers are relegated!

I've expanded from scotch whisky to bourbons and ryes. Not as complex as many scotch whiskies but they do have their merits.

Hi,

My name is Gary and I run the website malthound.co.uk which is a malt blog and price comparison site.

My favourite malts tend to be the 'peaty' ones including the Islay malts (Laphroaig, Bunnahabhain) as well as Highland Park.

But I also love Dalwhinnie and The Glenlivet.

I'm really looking forward to sharing a 'virtual' dram with everyone on the forum.

Sláinte!

Regards,
Gary

Welcome Gary and beetler.

Beetler, I don't recognize the Speyside 21 but there might be an older thread here. Try doing a search.

Richard from Amsterdam

Postby Blackmoresknight » Fri Jun 10, 2011 10:28 am

Hi, Richard here. I'm an Englishman living in Amsterdam. I have been a whisky enthousiast for the past 10 years and have fallen in love with Port Ellen (the whisky). I try to nose my way through as many tastings as possible to discover new and exciting bottles to add to my (very modest) collection.

I was the proud owner of a bottle of 21 year old Bushmills and whilst looking on the internet, for a new one, I came across the Make it 2 Bushmills contest and entered. I made it to the finals for the Netherlands. The next stage of the contest is to get as many votes on facebook as possible. On my quest to find votes I have come across many great sites and forums and joined quite a few!

I created a thread if anyone wants to help out and vote: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=13942

Hope to see lots of tips, tricks and great whisky's in the near future.

Richard

Not a new member, but one that is back after after some time away. Life in Tacoma Washington- I have been here for thee years. Been a single malt fan for about 8 years now. Now down to 5 single malts that I have not tried, depending on how one counts, and of course, new ones are nearly hitting the three year soon.

Here are the ones I have yet to sample.
Ben Wyvis
Kinclaith
Ladyburn
Kinivie (Hazelwood)
Kilkerran/Glenyle

Recently tried Glen Flagler in Vancouver- a treat indeed. Look forward to more regular contact...

Welcome back.

I've tried Flagler but not Killyloch, a different set of stills on the premises. Working on the group to purchase the Kininvie and the Killyloch. The only remaining one for me then is Daftmill, which has reached the appropriate age but has yet to have a bottling. BTW, Kilchoman has several releases available if you haven't tried them.
