Will you open something special for Christmas?

Postby Klas » Sun Dec 21, 2008 12:05 pm

I usually open something special at special events (Birthday, Christmas etc) and I enjoy planning the event. I am thinking of opening a Port Ellen OMC, 1982, 25 years Sherry cask for Christmas, but haven't finally decided yet.

Do you intend to open something special for Christmas?

I actually plan on opening several bottles between now and New Years, I've been decreasing the number of opens purposely, so that I can open whatever I feel like when the time comes. One I've really been waiting to open is the Highland Park 21 OB. :smoke:

I have a 27yo Glenlossie by SMWS on the way. That will be my celebratory dram for sure.

I voted Yes, I think so as I will for sure open one if my wife gets me any for Christmas. If she doesn't than I might open the 08 GTS.

I open a bottle of something nice on Chirstmas morning. Christmas day is often quite a warm day here so i usually opt for something light. This year i think it will be a Glengoyne Deek's choice because Glengoyne is one of my favorite distilleries and this one is a very delicate and light 8 year old cask strength. Perfect for a warm Christmas morning!

It's quite possible, but not sure what yet. It all might depend on what Santa leaves under the tree.

Nope, nothing getting opened for Christmas. In part, I'm always so busy with family and all the accompanying driving. CHP frowns a bit on you tipping one back in the auto.

Whatever he leaves under my tree, I'll be opening the 100ml sample of Lagavulin 21 sent to me by the Tross, bless him...

Yes I think so. Only because every bottle I have is opened. I have some whisky on the Christmas list. If I get one I will have to open it. I will have to see what Santa has in the old goodie bag for me this year

A more accurate vote would be "Yes, I hope so"

I will be opening one of three Highland Park 25yo's tonight. The 53.5% I have had before, the 50.7% that is well regarded or the new 48.1%. I think I've settled on the 50.7%. Also, tomorrow an open 1967 Longmorn-Glenlivet from Scott's Selection that only gets dipped into on special days.

Don't know if it qualifies as something "special" but I opened up that bottle of BenRiach 21 yo Authenticus that Santa had left under the tree. Yum!

And this got me so much in the mood for peat that I stopped by the local shop today and picked up their last bottle of Laphroaig 30 yo - kind of a late Christmas gift to myself.

Not this year as I am determined to finish the open bottles before I start any new ones. Then again, being new to whisky, every bottle is special :D
