Sung from the POV of a US internet spy spying on Bruichladdich as they shoot for the highest ABV, he concludes that they are building "weapons of mass distraction" because "they tried it on the locals and I've seen what it can do."

But he defects, and concludes:

"I'd rather die from this stuff than American beer."

Amen to that!

I enjoy many drinks, from water to builder's tea to Guinness to a nice red, but nothing turns the palate into an artist's canvas like a good malt.

Apart from whisk(e)y, I prefer sherry and (dessert) wines like vermouth, icewine, moscatel, etc. Quite a big fan of cocktails as well.

Sometimes known as British Rail tea...in other words, nothing herbal, fruity, medicinal, scented,chinese, green, exotic,etc.

Just a bag of PG Tips, or Brooke Bond(as advertised by chimpanzees on British TV) in a mug of hot water, with milk and sugar to taste.

But I love top end Tequilas. These are my most underated spirits. Anyone who thinks it's all about lick, suck, sip is missing out. Mexico produces hundreds of types of Tequila of varying quailty and price as well as Mezcal.(100% tequila can only be made from blue agave).
If you are curious my recommedation would be anything from the Don Julio range. I am also in the process of polishing off a bottle of Casa Noble extra Anejo(aged) tequila which is going down a treat. The bottles used to house tequila are often works of sheer artistry as well. My bottle of Casa Noble is made of black porcelain and is hand painted and individually numbered in 18 carat gold. Biggest problem in Australia is the lack of choice(as usual). Next purchase Trago silver.

Good call Dram!!! The only thing that beats a good Tequila is a good Whisk(e)y. Most people just "shoot" it at bachelor parties and never taste it. Then again Jose Cuervo isn't much of a sippin tequila. Rum and Tequila are the only other spirits out there for me!

Like whisky, Tequila is over priced in Australia. Is any tequila worth 400 bucks, probably not. But there are a number of good tequilas for around AUD$70-150 you can buy here. The Patron range, Casa Noble, Partida, Trago, Heradurra, and a personal fave the Don Julio Range. Also many tequila fans prefer the cheaper blancos(pure spirit, non aged) and reposados(usually aged around 6-12 months) to the more expensive Anejos(aged around 1-5 years).

I have never tried Gran Patron Platinum but why it costs so much here is a mystery as I tend to use tequila.net as a guide and neither the editor or members score it any higher than some of the other tequilas mentioned above and in some instances less.

I buy good sipping tequila which I drink slowly like a good whisky and a bottle can last me up to 6 months or more, unlike a bottle of JD with coke that can last me an evening or a bottle of French champagne 1-2 hours. I know which is better value.

$400 for tequila?! Run-of-the-mill tequila is $30-$40 here and I find that overpriced. I recently saw some $80 tequila in a locked cabinet at the liquor store and actually burst out laughing!

Pretty much anything from El Tesoro / Tapatio (apart from the ET Repo, which is kind of not up to the level of their other products)

Cuervo Reserva La Familia (unfortunately huge batch variation makes me hesitate buying these...)

Gotta be Ron Zacappa 23

Grappa: Distilleria Berta: friggen phenominal grappas. Try the Bric del Gaian - simply awesome.

Wine: have been drinking a lot of this recently because my wife just finished off her sommelier's diploma in her spare time :p Anyway, have drank a lot of different bottles, but have to say that my favourites are German Kabinet Rieslings, Alsace Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer, Burgundy Pinot, Sauternes, Tokai, and even some of the Australian dessert wines shuch as Seppelt.

Beer: well, that's a HUGE category, but enjoying some local beers such as Phillips and Central City.

Beer is my alternative of choice and I prefer the strong West Coast IPA's and Belgians. I recommend Houblon Chouffe Tripel IPA.

I drink my fare share of wine as well preferring bold reds. I highly recommend Chateau St Jean's Cinq Cepages from Sonoma.

I dig a bunch of stuff.

We do cocktails at my house fairly often. Have a decently stocked bar - Rum, Vodka, Bacardi, Tequila, Brandy, Cointreau, Tia Maria, various schnapps (Peppermint, Creme De Cacao, Curacao, etc).

In summer I tend to drink White Wine (I have a preference for a crisp, dry, Riesling), or Beer (I'm not a big beer drinker; tend to prefer Pilsners and the like - favoured beers are Becks, Corona, Pure Blonde, Cobra, Tiger, Monsoon).

In winter I tend to go for Red Wine (big strong Shiraz, by preference).

A friend has been trying to interest me in port. He has succeeded in getting my interest, but I can't see me "getting into" port, in the same way I do with Whisky.

Has anyone tried the Black Isle Brewery beers?

I found their Blonde Beer when i was living in Inverness. The draught, only served in a few pubs there, was good, but i still get the bottles delivered to my home (now a few miles from Inverness).
