Glenlivet 21 or Yamazaki 18

I just got a yamazaki 18 and its absolutley fantastic, my main criticsm is that its almost too good, if you know what i mean?

SO my vote would be yamazaki 18

Yamazaki 18. To expand on Caledonia's thoughts, the Yamazaki is more of a science than an art as it seems so put together.

Never had the G21, but I love the Nadurras...

However, I have twice had a dram of Yummyzake 18, and then another...

Fffantastic. To me it was like a mix of Highland Park and Springbank on steroids.

Amazing, outstanding stuff. Nose that leaps out of the glass like a Kamikaze pilot on a mission. I want a damn CRATE!

It's probably no help to you now (especially since I've not tasted either of these) but i'd be spending my money on the Yama 18 long before i'd think about the 'livet.

Good choice Swedish Chef. The Yamazaki 18 is so incredibly complex and one to be savored. The Glenlivet 21 was also very good. I even enjoyed it more than I did highly regarded Nadurra. I have no idea what the newer batches are like though. My experience with the 'Archive' was before the packaging change (c. 2005) at which time they raised the price from 90.00 to $125.00 in my neck of the woods.

Sorry gents, I forgot to post that I put the order for the Yamazaki in this morning.

Ardbeg311, I love the Nàdurra and the 'livet 18yo. I get the Nàdurra - it's a stock item in my cabinet - for $59 (and being CS it's great value for money) and the 18yo is $69. The 21 is $104 and the Yamazaki $99.

I decided to buy a glenlivet 12 ($46) and the Yamazaki.
Now I'll have to wait for about eight days before the yama arrive. Can't wait.

Reggeablues, it was that comment - first metioned in another thread - that sparked my interest in the "Yummy". The only reason I considered the Glenlivet 21 is 'cause it's the, now, cheapest 21 in Sweden. We used to get the marvelous Glenfarclas 21 ($97). But sadly my snooker dram is no longer available.

Glenfarclas 21 is a great whisky, why is it no longer available to you?

Either the goverment liqour monopoly think us citizens no longer need the 21yo (six other expresions are available) or the (privately owned) import company can't get any/Glenfarclas doesn't think we need any here in Sweden.

I've never tried the Yamazaki 18, but from the sounds of it, you won't go wrong with either choice. The Glenlivet 21 is fantastic too.

I had the chance to partake of the old Glenlivet Archive 21 Suitcase addition. Man, that's a great whisky. Much higher sherry content than the standard Archive 21. However, it will run you a few shillings.

To be honest I do not know, I haven't opened it yet . I'm saving it for when my brother gets here, or anyone else keen on whisky.
