Do You Really Taste Salt?

...And reading through some of these replies, I think the question is ambiguous. Yes, I really taste it. No, it isn't really salt.

I don't have that much experience, but I do have an open bottle of Laphroigh 10 yo, the old 43%. Maybe it isn't real salt, but I find that whisky very salty.

I taste salt most predominantly in Old Pulteney 12.

There isn't any salt, as in table salt, in whisky but then there isn't chocolate, heather, roses, cardboard, rubber, cat pee, wine gums, cheese, bandages, coast line or anything of the like.

However some of these aromas and flavours are there, including salty aromas and flavours. Why people insist on looking for actual salt in whisky is beyond me. It's not there but salty aromas and flavours are.

The question isn't "is there salt in whisky" but "Do you really taste salt?"

I do. often depending on the state of my palate. It's not usual, but sometimes any whisky tastes salty and metallic. I usually take it as a sign of some imbalance in my system, tiredness, or whatever, and lay off for a while.

Right now, i have a terrible cold, and can't even smell Laphroaig!! And to sip, it tastes like salted peppered water. Yuk!
