I just invented an innovative cocktail that contains Caol Ila a nd Coca Cola.
I just don't know wether to call it Coca Ila or Caol Cola...

But depending on variations of pronunciation, that's like just dropping the final "a" from Coca Cola, and might cause confusion. If this cocktail had been invented by a countryman of mine I might have suggested a "Koala", but then you'd probably end up getting a Kahlua.

Yeah...I see what you mean but I'd still like to have my rum separately from my cola. A rum with a cola chaser...

There are some very good rums around and it would seem a shame to mix them with cola.

Back to coke. just tastes like a sickly version of the worst cough medicine I had at school. I just don't GET it. that and the thought of how quickly it rots whatever you drop in it, And for diet coke freaks, check out aspartame!

It's actually a neurotoxin. Banned originally by the US food and drug admin, the ban was later repealed purely as a business scam by the US gov. to bring huge dollars to a company run or part owned by... Dick Cheney! Or was it Donald Rumsfeld, or both? Can't recall the exact story but all the elements are there.

Tullamore Dew is a bit of an "open plan" kinda whiskey so that's good for mixing. With long drinks though you're not getting much spirit. Well, the way most people like their long drinks you're not - that is, 25/35ml spirit and a massive amount of fizzy drink!!


The "sweeter" style bourbons or American whiskeys are good with a cola and ice.

"Best whiskey for cocktails/mixing" might be a better question" though.

I've enjoyed the humour in this thread a lot but on a ever so slightly serious note, and I'm not totally sure about this one as I've only just started looking into the whole history of whiskey cocktails but I think it was very much the thing to do during phases of history, at least in the major metropolitan cities for top bartenders to predominantly mix whiskey and create interesting drinks. To particularly serious types who collect or explore the range out there and who like to compare the deeper nuances of one whiskey compared to another, mixing is a no no. And that's fair enough but in terms of the true heritage of whiskey, cocktails are a really big part of the story. And a whiskey and coke is effectively a cocktail. I think a punch has to have five ingredients and these various punch recipes seem to be very significant in the late 1800's particularly. When I read up more I'll come back and tell you all about it.

But that combination is as strange to me as the idea of Paris Hilton dating George Clooney--one's got so much more class than the other. I prefer being able to taste the nuances and blend of notes in scotch with only a little water. That said, once in a while, I enjoy a rum and coke.

Let's see, when I'm deflect away from SMs, Rum and Beer ... I drink Southern Comfort with "Sprite" - a lemon lime concoction; C.C. and 7*; which therefore leaves Wisers and Coke.
(*5 Star, VO and most others go well with 7up. )

Thus, I voted Canadian (rye) whisky.

Nothing at all, it just happens to also taste very good with Coke. The cheap(er) stuff, of course.

Agreed....Coke is for bourbon. Nearly everyone I drink with keeps Jack Daniels on hand because when people(the amateuers who buy the marketing) come over to drink, they expect to see Jack in a well stocked bar, but not many people really like it for much other than shots after they're already hammered or for use as a mixer. There are much better whiskies available, including several other bourbons which can be enjoyed neat.
