I love the Highland Park 12 year but can't vote now because I still haven't tasted the Talisker 10.

Seeing the results so far I don't think it will make a huge difference if I'll end up voting for HP12 but it seems I must buy ( or try ) me a bottle of Talisker 10 soon!!

I have not had the Highland Park 12 but I was not a fan of the Tali 10 at all so I am not voting but sitll wanted to say how I felt

I'm also not a big fan of the Talisker 10, especially when you water it down to 40% Alc. -which is the strenght of the Talisker- you can easily tell which one is the better malt.

For <$40 HP 12 is a great whisky and a great deal, but obviously T10 is the winner by a landslide.

Look... I love both, despite their considerable differences.

However, Highland Park 12 Year Old wins out for the following reasons:

1. Utilization of a proportion of 'home-peat-reeked' barley
2. Overall complexity
3. Consistency of product over many, many years
4. Incorporation of a percentage of whiskies aged in top quality Sherry wood

I've been a fan of HP12 since the early 1980s, and it has provided me with a tremendous number of satisfying drams.

For me it depends which has the most in the bottle. Otherwise they are both fine whiskies that remind us that whisky drinking needn't be an expensive hobby.

Tali10 for me. Somehow the HP12 usually tastes too young and diluted. I never pick up a Tali 10 and wish I had the Tali 18 instead but I do find myself wishing for the HP18 when I drink HP12. It's probably because I generally prefer more robust and flavourful whiskies.

PS. I like these types of discussion. They provide the opportunity to compare the strengths weaknesses of each (relative merits if you will) between two whiskies.

I did have in mind a few more head to head matches if this one did well. I started the 1 on 1 format as I looked at the other polls and realized there were too many factors to consider when there was more whisky to choose from. With only 2 you are forced to really focus and it provides a much deeper discussion.

This weekend I bought my first bottle of Talisker 10 ( alongside a bottle of Talisker 18 !! ) so I plan to vote tomorow ( today I drank something else ).

Before my recent bottle of HP12 I would have easily sad HP12 but now I'm not so sure yet......

HP12. That might change when the snow starts falling and my peat craving sets in but I do prefer Longrow CV and Laphroaig 10/QC over the Talisker.

I love them both, but I prefer the HP12. I've never tasted a scotch that was as SALTY as the Tally...it's quite unique in that respect (IMO). It's great, but that salt...the HP is much easier on my palate.
