Time for another close call between 2 forum favourites. Both are around the same abv%, same place on the flavour map and similar price (at least where I live). Which do you reach for first?

Always the Ardbeg. The QC just doesn't thrill me. Now if it was the Laph 10 CS....

The Ardbeg has a few more subtelties to my tastebuds, tho I love the QC.

But it's all academic right no as I have a headfull of cold and I can't even smell either!

If you can't smell LQC then you must have playdough wrapped in vick vapo rub stuck in your nose

I voted for Ardbeg 10 only because I just got my first bottle of this last week. I have had a bottle of Laphroaig QC as well, but as of now, I would say I would reach for Ardbeg 10 first only because I'm still "exploring" it as I'm only a 1/4 of the way into the bottle. Ask me this question once I have finished the bottle of Ardbeg 10 and I would probably vote QC.

Ardbeg 10! Defenitely the ten, although my Lap QC is empty for a long time already, so on for.... and then I could become in a position to change my vote. If that's okay?

If I were comparing these two whiskies to musical styles, the Laphroaig QC would be equivalent to Beethoven , while Ardbeg would be Chopin!

Both have their place in the universe - depending upon mood!

Close call but I went with the Ardbeg 10. The tar on the palate pushed the A10 over the top.

I've got bottles of both and they both go quickly...but I give the nod to the QC. I'm a fan of the medicinal Lap style and I love how it shines through the sweetness of the QC: a great, balanced, any-time malt.

Ardbeg 10 for me. The last two bottles of the QC, while good, didn't wow me like the previous bottles. Maybe the batches have improved since 2007.

Yes, my last 2 bottles of QC(bought special offer - £21 each from sainsbury's) didn't "wow " me like the first few I had. V. good whisky nonetheless, but...I was never in the least disappointed with a bottle of Ardbeg 10...for the last 6 years!

just don't have any right now - a travesty, but a sign of the times...

Anyway, I STILL have no sense of smell or taste. this is a BAD cold. Tried some QC last night. Even that couldn't penetrate the putty in my nose. It smelt and tasted like chillified water...

Well, I had a QC for the first time ever. :oops:

I really love it. Somebody on this forum called it 'liquid heroine' and I must admit it's not far from the truth. Although I voted QC it was a photo finish.

I have to admit that I am slightly shocked that the QC is beating the A10. Even though I prefer the A10 I am glad to see Laph getting its dues.

Ardbeg wins out for me.

I do quite enjoy the Laphroaig. However, I've always harboured a suspicion that the quarter cask finishing process, in that it adds greater impact from the oak and somewhat 'glosses over' the more subtle (Who would ever think of applying the term subtle to Laphroaig? Yet there it is!) seaside vegetative flavour elements, thereby robs the QC of just a tad of its intrinsic distillery character.

The Ardbeg 10YO, in contrast, comes across as pure as, well, Ardbeg.

Both are great staple whiskies, but I have really been into Laphroaigs the past few months / year... As someone else said, the 10CS and my other favourite - the 15yo - have just "suited" me very nicely, and the QC is always a fun, easy drink!

Of course, there is a case of Uigeadail sitting in the basement just for those Ardbeg emergencies

Anyway - I voted for the QC...

LOL - well, it's a town home so it's more like a basement / garage. It just happens to have other things in it like half an organic pig in the deep freeze, a couple of cars that probably need to be replaced in a year or two and a fair bit of whisky (with a "fair bit" being highly relative on this forum:)!). The case of "BC Uigeadail" sits next to some other nice whiskies for sure, but like I said, it's all relative on this forum. Maybe the wife would let me trade you the basement for your whisky!
